We all remember that horrible day. It's emblazoned in our memories for the rest of our lives. NYC and all of America was changed forever on that fateful day in September 2001. The 9/11 Memorial Museum opens May 21, 2014 just in time for the Memorial Day Holiday! Let's tawk and remember together...

Agreed, Rachael - I'm sure the experience will be very moving. 9/11 affected every American so deeply, regardless of their place at the time of the attack on the twin towers.

★ Spotlighted from Rachael Workman

I'm sure it's amazing. Will need to go check it out once the crowds die down.

TC

Terry Clouth · 5:33 PM

Hey Wanda...sorry I'm late...
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:33 PM

While the 9/11 memorial site has been opened up for awhile now, the 9/11 museum is garnering its own brand of well-deserved attention.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:34 PM

No problemo, Terry. Welcome to our Tawk about the exciting opening of the National September 11 Museum!
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:34 PM

the dedication this morning was a tear jerker for sure. No one can go to the 9/11 Memorial Museum without feeling the spirits.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:34 PM

I think you're correct that the timing of the opening is totally appropriate - just in time for Memorial day.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:35 PM

I felt that Obama's dedication of the museum was wonderfully heartfelt...and Clinton had tears in his eyes.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:35 PM

Right - there's not a single American, I'll bet, that doesn't remember exactly where they were & what they were doing at the moment the story broke the news.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:36 PM

That's nice - what was George W. doing? lol
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:36 PM

Yes, Wanda...perfect timing. Despite the fact that Memorial Day is about our soldiers lost in wars, I think that 9/11 and the terrorist attack should be considered a war.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:36 PM

I didn't see JR. in the crowd but I'm sure he was there.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:37 PM

For sure - and the rescue workers the warriors.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:37 PM

Here's a cool resource I found for anyone interested in visiting the 911 memorial, or even just learning about all that's going on with regard to that and the 911 museum:

Upon entering the Memorial Museum, placed strategically between the fountains marking the location of the twin towers, you actually walk a ramp that was a part of the parking garage!
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:38 PM

Wow! I'm sure the 10,000+ artifacts are just unbelievable.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:39 PM

So, even though I believe we are a nation of the same mind when it comes to the fact that the 9/11 memorial and museum are a very necessary and appropriate tribute, there is some emotional controversy surrounding all this, as well...
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:39 PM

the hall where all the victims are pictured is heart wrenching
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:40 PM

3000 pictures of souls lost to those with the mentality of Boko Haram!!
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:40 PM

But let's not take away from the reason for this tawk...
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:41 PM

We all must remember...and the 9/11 Memorial will definitely keep the day in our minds.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:41 PM

Ahh...that's a sensitive topic these days. As long as groups like Boko Haram exist, there will always be that kind of fear.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:42 PM

binladin was just a tip of the iceberg
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:42 PM

In a NYT article by Holland Carter, "The 9/11 Story Told at Bedrock; Powerful as a Punch to the Gut,"...
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:43 PM

Among other things, the fraught global politics of Sept. 11 and the World Trade Center are hinted at here in an astonishing quotation, emblazoned on a wall, by Minoru Yamasaki, the architect of the towers, in which he declares the buildings...
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:43 PM

“a monument to world peace.”
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:44 PM

Beautiful...one thing people should realize is that the 9/11 Memorial Museum also contains artifacts from the 1993 World Trade Center bombing
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:45 PM

I find it interesting...inspiring - the idea of looking to the 9/11 memorial and museum,as a beacon of peace. It should remind us how important that goal is. Alas, the moniker has caused some conflicting reaction. Thoughts, Terry?
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:46 PM

Peace? As long as Boko Haram and Islamic terrorist groups exist...there will never be peace. They don't want it.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:47 PM

I'm referring to how we, as a collective, view the September 11 museum. Sure, we could choose to remember terror. OR, we could look to it as a reminder. A reminder of the importance of striving for peace. A reminder of strength and humanity...
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:48 PM

It's hard though to separate...
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:48 PM

A reminder that we, as a nation, can overcome even the most horrific of circumstances. The way the entire nation banded together to help our brothers & sisters in NYC was truly inspiring. Remember?
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:49 PM

the memory of watching people jumping from the burning building...3000 deaths!!
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:49 PM

I remember too well...and you're correct Wanda.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:50 PM

the 9/11 memorial Museum should stand for the strength and power that we as a people have. I'll never forget how the flags came out!!
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:50 PM

And that's part of the reason that this 9/11 museum represent ALL of America - our ability to stand together in the face of adversity.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:50 PM

Now you're on my wavelength!
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:51 PM

the generation of kids that were in their formidable years when 9/11 occurred are some of the most patriotic kids in decades!
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:51 PM

And perhaps that stance, viewing the 9/11 museum as a "monument to world peace" can help the thousands of families to move on in some way.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:52 PM

Tragedy spawns strength...there was an increase of nearly 30% in American volunteering for the Armed Forces over the months after 9/11
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:52 PM

Yes they are! My kids are too young - they weren't born yet. But I think often and at length about what a different world it is that they're growing up in because of the 9/11 attacks.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:53 PM

I know kids that were in their early teens and they are totally against terrorism in all of it's nasty forms
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:53 PM

So, when does the National September 11 Museum open officially? I missed that part...
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:54 PM

I know the museum's opening day tickets are sold out - can't remember the exact number, but it's in the manys-of-thousands.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:54 PM

I believe it's officially opening on May 21 but I'm not perfectly clear. One thing that is really, really coool is that victims and their families DO NOT pay and will never have to.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:55 PM

That is awesome!
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:55 PM

I thought so too...I mean really, isn't that the least that could be done?
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:56 PM

One of the most haunting images I've seen so far from the Memorial Museum is the Fire Truck
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:57 PM

The first responder's truck that was destroyed in the implosion is on display...and the stairway leading to street level is there...wow
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:57 PM

I also read - I think in those FAQ's that I posted the link to earlier - that there is a special, private room just for the families. I suppose so they have some personal space for dealing with the emotions that the 9/11 museum experience will
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:57 PM

surely induce.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:57 PM

I had a chance a few years ago to visit Pearl Harbor...I passed.
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:58 PM

Remembering the 9/11 heriosm, as well.
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:58 PM

I think that I will have to stick with online pics and television to see the 9/11 Memorial Museum, too
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:58 PM

Those who lost their lives trying to save so many...that is what
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:59 PM

"Hero" means
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:59 PM

Pearl Harbor I might be able to do - the 9/11 museum? I'm kinda with you on that, just because it would be so overwhelming, I think. The difference between the two experiences is that one happened during my lifetime and the other is "history",
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 5:59 PM

If you know what I mean...
TC

Terry Clouth · 5:59 PM

Yea, I get that.
TC

Terry Clouth · 6:00 PM

the 9/11 Memorial Museum will probably be one of the most visited places in America that leaves you thoughtful....
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 6:00 PM

But see - my wimpiness about experiencing the 9/11 museum illustrates how ALL of America was affected by the attacks. I didn't know any of the 9/11 victims, yet I find the idea to be very emotional, just the same.
TC

Terry Clouth · 6:01 PM

As an extraordinarily empathetic person...I just break into tears at the thought and the memories
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 6:01 PM

As it should be. Never forget! But do try to take whatever positive shrapnel can be scraped away from the experience to make the world a better place moving forward. I think that's what the Sept 11 museum will become...
TC

Terry Clouth · 6:02 PM

I hope that we as a nation remember and NEVER fall asleep again!
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 6:02 PM

Oh! Here's the link to the rest of that New York Times article if you'd like a read: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/05/14/arts/design/sept-11-memorial-museum-at-ground-zero-prepares-for-opening.html?_r=0
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 6:03 PM

Thanks for the chat, Terry!
TC

Terry Clouth · 6:03 PM

Thanks, I actually read that one earlier! Ground Zero...is there a more haunting term?
TC

Terry Clouth · 6:04 PM

Great! It was a good tawk. Have a super great day!
WJ

Wanda Jameson · 6:04 PM

Ditto!
