The Islamic Militant group Boko Haram is holding over 200 school girls hostage somewhere in Nigeria. Negotiations are for the release of imprisoned rebels in exchange for the return of the captured girls. Join JD and Bob to discuss the recent and disturbing developments in Nigeria.

BA

Bob Alooha · 4:30 PM

Hey, JD. Here to tawk about a not-so-awesome subject today...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:30 PM

Yep...
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:31 PM

The kidnapping of all those Nigerian girls is an absolute tragedy. #bringbackourgirls
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:31 PM

Yes, it's quite disturbing to know what the Boko Haram is capable of
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:32 PM

But the grievously delayed world response to this mass abduction speaks volumes about how desensitized we have become.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:32 PM

Boko Haram - "Western education is sinful".
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:32 PM

Well, according to CNN this morning, we have deployed manned surveillance planes over Nigeria
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:33 PM

Ironic translation, don't you think?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:33 PM

and there are about 30 FBI, Defense and State dept personnel in Nigeria as we speak
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:33 PM

Yes. That's good. But the girls have been missing for a whole month, and we're just reacting now?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:34 PM

while the US won't divulge the entirety of what is being done, it has taken WAY too long to intervene
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:34 PM

This Islamic Militant group, Boko Haram has been around and raising hell in Nigeria since 2009...
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:34 PM

How much outrage would it have cause if it had taken a month to illicit a response when Flight 370 went missing?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:35 PM

Exactly...and our VP said something to that effect. He said he would send troops.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:35 PM

Not that the missing plane isn't a tragedy - of course it is. I'm just using it as an example for comparison. Nearly 300 children are missing.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:35 PM

From what I have read, it's a sticky wicket over there.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:36 PM

France, England and the US have allied and will take "police" action if the situation isn't resolved soon.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:36 PM

I think this quote from Reverend Al Sharpton is relevant: "As the world's second-largest and second-most populous continent, Africa is us, and we are Africa."

JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:37 PM

I'm a little disturbed by the fact that I've not read any UN intervention...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:37 PM

I mean, isn't the UN basically the World Police?
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:37 PM

Right?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:38 PM

Kidnapped on April 14...are the lives of 200 young girls valued more than the jailed militants? If the negotiations succeed and the militants are released...wow, talk about anarchy!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:39 PM

boko haram has had Nigerians living in fear since 2009...I say stop the BS and step in....militarily
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:40 PM

Agreed - we step in when our financial security is at risk. So, what? Human rights ranks lower on the priority list?
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:41 PM

Here's an article on zeenews regarding the U.N.'s official stance on helping to rescue the Nigerian girls: http://zeenews.india.com/news/world/un-security-council-threatens-action-over-girls-abduction-in-nigeria_931079.html
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:41 PM

If we are willing to spend millions if not billions of dollars to find a plane full of souls lost at sea, why are we not providing more intelligence to find the 200 women who are alive...makes no sense.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:41 PM

The UN has finally stepped in, but only as of this past Friday. I hope this doesn't turn out to be a "too little, too late" story...
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:43 PM

That's exactly right. Curious that we have such an example for direct comparison - seems civilization as a whole should be taking a deeper look at ourselves. Timing...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:43 PM

at this point, it appears that Boko Haram is the one running the show.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:44 PM

I would have to be a hostage negotiator dealing with the irrational minds of an Islamic militant group
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:44 PM

Maybe we are desensitized to events like this because we simply cannot imagine living in a world where our children are at risk of being kidnapped by terrorists and threatened to be sold into slavery.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:45 PM

Seems like something that only happens in the movies. But we need to wake up & realize that terrorist groups like Boko Haram are very real.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:45 PM

Allah preaches peace...never have quite understood why
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:46 PM

there are areas of Nigeria that are controlled comploetely by Boko Haram and anyone entering that area is asking to die
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:46 PM

And I think you're right - Boko Haram is running the show. What does that say about the state of affairs in Nigeria in general?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:47 PM

Well, like I said, the Boko Haram Militants have been an anti gov't group for years and have been performing terroristic acts for years now
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:47 PM

Right. Terrorizing and killing in the name of God. Unbelievable.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:47 PM

The Nigerian Gov't is in shambles
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:47 PM

Not God...Allah
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:47 PM

There is a SERIOUS difference
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:48 PM

I bet the US would've taken a stronger stance against Boko Haram if Nigeria had oil.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:48 PM

I meant "God" in general - whoever your version is. All religions have done it.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:49 PM

true enough...it just seems that in the recent century, the Islamic nations have had some real issues with those not on their knees praying to Allah every few hours
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:50 PM

Converting all the Nigerian girls to Islam...threatening to sell them...Boko Haram's purpose seems convoluted to me.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:50 PM

It's all about getting their buddies out of jail
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:50 PM

They've asked for the release of prisoners. Have they asked for anything else?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:51 PM

Not as far as I know...just the release of ALL militants of the Boko Haram
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:51 PM

It amazes me that kidnapping 250 or so girls seems like the right thing to do...really?
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:52 PM

Just seems funny (not ha ha funny, but strange) that men so devoted to terrorism would go to the trouble to "save" these girls souls by enlightening them with Islam, when it's all about a human exchange, anyway. But I digress...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:53 PM

Imagine living in a world where even the children are carrying assult weapons just to survive the day
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:53 PM

I think the intervention needs to go far beyond rescuing the Nigerian girls...this Boko Haram situation overall needs to be resolved for the Nigerian people to live without constant fear.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:53 PM

I can't.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:53 PM

Boko Haram needs to be disbanned...I agree.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:53 PM

At what cost though, Bob?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:54 PM

I bring up again, the value of life...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:54 PM

If a few die for the betterment of the masses...????
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:54 PM

Well, we're willing to spend unimaginable amounts of money trying to solve the mystery of Flight 370, where, I'm sorry to say, the chance of actually saving some lives is nil...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:55 PM

Oh the passengers are dead...these girls are still alive...
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:55 PM

Or did you mean the humanitarian cost?
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:55 PM

Because I think that's pretty clear from a moral standpoint too...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:55 PM

BUT...by negotiating with Boko Haram to save the girls, does that not put control into the hands of the rebels?
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:56 PM

Save the girls, then take Boko Haram out.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:56 PM

Ideally...but that's never how things work in this world.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:57 PM

The Nigerian Gov't is weakened already...I believe it's time for a little "police" action to take out the trrash
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:57 PM

True. But you can't just do nothing, either. Then what happens? Boko Haram continues to terrorize and control Nigeria, until they're in charge of a whole country?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:58 PM

that's exactly what it's about Bob...land and power
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:59 PM

I read where the CIA/FBI and whatever other sneaky gov't office can help...they are looking at the photos of the kidnapped girls to try to determine the location.
BA

Bob Alooha · 4:59 PM

It's sad. It's difficult to even imagine the reality of life in that situation. For as much as we bitch and complain about our own government, I'm damn glad to live in America!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 4:59 PM

they have in fact determined an area indigenous to the plant life in the pic and are flying over with special planes as we speak
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:00 PM

The US won't reveal exactly what technology or type of planes being used but they are hopeful to find the camp soon. We'll see
BA

Bob Alooha · 5:01 PM

I hope so! Blessings to those families praying for the return of their children.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:02 PM

You're right Bob...I hear people complaining about Obama and paying taxes but we can walk down the street without too much fear...nothing compared to how the Nigerians are forced to live because of Boko Haram. They have to fear for their lives daily.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:03 PM

Nice tawk today...I hope that awareness of the horrors inflicted by Boko Haram will get the American and World fired up to do something to stop the ongoing terrorism that peace loving people have to endure.
BA

Bob Alooha · 5:04 PM

We take too much for granted.
BA

Bob Alooha · 5:04 PM

Bring back our girls!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:04 PM

we're soft an lazy...but hey, we're Americans!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:04 PM

#bringbackourgirls Nuff said
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:05 PM

Have a great day, Bob...
