Ok - either it's the wrong tempo, orrrr the song needs a 'tempo map' with changes in tempo for different parts of the song, orrrrrrrrr you're thinking yourself into anxiety and it's throwing off your natural groove! Any of those?

It's fun to play fast, drive fast, fast is FUN! Fun for the driver, not the passenger, haha... sometimes the same for the player & the listener, fun to play, but doesn't connect as well to the non-player.

A two channel tube amp than has clean & dirty... orrrrr, Blackstarvmakes these killer pedals that give a cranked up metal amp sound and when you bypass it's clean.

If you do a Marshall stack go for a tube one and use a good pedal to drive it - Ibanez Tube Screamer, Boss or MXR, lots of choices :)

Start by getting an old guitar and do modifications.... wire in different pickups and toggle switch settings :)

Depending on a lot of ways pickups are made, there's a big difference in sound - low output ones are more organic, higher output ones are more saturated but less personality, hand-wound makes them respond differently than machine wound, some are....

You can definitely drive a guitar with single cool pickups and get a nice nasty sound :)
