testing...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:02 AM

Okay, now I'm here
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:03 AM

Dennis, you here?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:03 AM

testing 1,2,3
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:03 AM

Sorry for the delay
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:03 AM

Let me start by introducing people to you, Dennis.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:03 AM

Not that the world shouldn't already know...
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:03 AM

Testing 1,2,3
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:04 AM

But you're a filmmaker, producer, writer, and director. You made the Occupy doc "American Autumn" and you also enjoy bestiality porn. Is that about right?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:06 AM

Also, people in the audience, don't forget to vote for comments you like. That's how Dennis and I will see them.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:06 AM

Bestiality porn, The Little Rascals and the New York Knicks!
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:07 AM

So we're here to fix the world with video. I'll start easy - can it be done? And if so, why didn't you did it during Occupy?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:07 AM

Actually, I am curious what motivates people to leave youtube & facebook and take to the streets. Anyone?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:08 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

Were any animals harmed in the filming of American Autumn?

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:08 AM

What tricks have you used to try to get youtube to correspond with street activism?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:08 AM

There's an easy "pigs" joke there that I won't make.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:10 AM

Dennis, when did you first start calling yourself an activism? Has it been a long time?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:10 AM

Lee- I made a series of specific calls to action before occupy happened (as an organizer with the October 2011 coalition)- one of the proudest moments in my life was meeting a group of people from Colorado who were “occupying” Washington DC b/c of my
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:10 AM

amazing
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:10 AM

my videos… so that was cool
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:10 AM

Yes, I met you through those videos.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:10 AM

In a way, the DC Occupation was a huge success.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:11 AM

In another way - it did end ultimately. Do you view it as a success?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:11 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lolly Gaggins

Videos captured of the Occupy movement, factory farms, clear cut forests, Copwatch actions, hydraulic fracturing, school bullies, and drone assassinations have had already helped to fix the world in my opinion.

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:12 AM

Both of the DC occupations were successful
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:13 AM

My take on Occupy is that a) It's still very active online and in other ways b) it was very successful in it's opening months and year and c) it was a tactic and tactics MUST change. They can't stay the same. Your thoughts?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:13 AM

Thanks Dickies.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:14 AM

Yes, thank you DB!
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:14 AM

Yes, thank you DB!
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:15 AM

Dennis, where would you like to see Occupy go now? Or do protests against this corrupt system need to change altogether?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:15 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

It's been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. We are very visual creatures. We remember so much of what we see and it really can effect how we think about things. Look at the advertisement industry. We can turn it into something good.

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:15 AM

How about major congrats to Lee who raised 30K on kickstarter for Moment of Clarity series in record time?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:16 AM

Thanks Dennis. (I swear I didn't pay him to say that.)
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:17 AM

People can check out the kickstarter after the Tawk. But Dennis, where would you like to see protests go now? Or do you just want them to make for good footage?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:17 AM

Lee, I see Occupy evolving into a way of life- and less a series of protests...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:18 AM

You've been working on Move To Amend videos (with me among others) - Is amending the constitution the answer?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:18 AM

★ Spotlighted from Santiago Navarro

Can they read us?

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:18 AM

I'd like to see people (here in the US) STOP looking to the 2 party system as something that can help them ...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:18 AM

Santiago - We can see the comments that get voted up. So most of them.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:19 AM

The system is nor broken, it is working exactly as planned.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:19 AM

And i know it's a cliche question - but what's your response to people who say it's the only way to get anything done because 3rd party can't win?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:19 AM

Hey Santiago - we can see you !
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:19 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lucy Dyer

Occcupy is not an over night thing, its here to stay in whatever form it takes. it will always be there

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:19 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lolly Gaggins

I take the streets when all other options have been exhausted or when I'm just really frustrated with inaction, I think Occupy is probably more powerful now that they are not physically present.

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:20 AM

I wouldn't be surprised if you're right, Lolly.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:20 AM

Lee my answer would be in the form of another question: what exactly do we accomplish by voting for democrats?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:20 AM

Although the physical presence is what gave it the strength at the beginning.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:20 AM

Look at the minor gun reform laws that could not pass ...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:20 AM

Well, Dennis, since I was playing devils advocate, and I actually agree with you, I might not have an answer.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:21 AM

BUT people would say to me -- "Women's rights! Gay Rights!"
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:21 AM

90% of population supports the small gun reform that was proposed.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:21 AM

I read that background checks was more popular than kittens. Literally.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:21 AM

And it still couldn't pass.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:21 AM

★ Spotlighted from Other Possibilities

instead of 500 people on a march, what about 100 filling 5 bank lobbies, all with a single distinct message

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:22 AM

I like that - other possibilities- what would the message be?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:22 AM

Other - I love that idea. I would love to see it.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:22 AM

And sometimes we do it - and it's great.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:23 AM

the 1,000 people outside Koch Theater was amazing. It was great.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:23 AM

★ Spotlighted from Charles Henry

We should think about adopting Australia's voting law of a mandatory paid day off for voting :)

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:23 AM

★ Spotlighted from Other Possibilities

and following dennis' and lee's examples and making media that has effective and factual messaging and broadcasting it far & wide

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:24 AM

yes other- one way to undermine the empire is to tear down the pillars that hold it up. the MSM holds up the American Empire- creating and supporting indie media is crucial
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:25 AM

And that's why they find it so scary.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:25 AM

The CISPA fight is happening now.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:25 AM

Dennis, can we talk for a moment about YouTube. It's independent media - but now I feel like it's becoming a goliath dominated by ad dollars.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:26 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lucy Dyer

everyone should just stop watching tv and buying newspapers. maybe that would scare the shit outta them - probaly wont but it would be fun to try

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:27 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

Anyone else notice America resembles almost exactly the propaganda we were fed about the USSR in the 80's?

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:28 AM

Which propaganda, Jordan? The rich and poor disparity? No one can get ahead?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:28 AM

★ Spotlighted from Other Possibilities

i'd encourage content producers to provide greater context to frame the ideas and images, and facts always facts- opinion and anecdote only go so far and then it just becomes more currents in a river of noise

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:28 AM

Lee- the "wild west" days of youtube are OVER, in my opinion (cont)
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:28 AM

I don't even need "wild west" - I just want equal chance to get to people as the guy covered in ad buys.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:29 AM

While it is still in many real ways- a democractizing (sp?) force, gatekeepers have been put in place. If I were just starting out creating a channel now- I don't know if I could find an audience.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:30 AM

Yeah, it's losing the appeal of "anybody can make it" - KINDA LIKE AMERICA!
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:30 AM

Wow, who woulda known I'd use youtube as a metaphor for america in this conversation.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:31 AM

So when you first got big on youtube during Kucinich's campaign, it was different then?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:31 AM

Lee - I think you are reaching people, but google/ yotube are part of the shareholder capitalist system.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:32 AM

Yeah, but it's pretty impossible to make any strides while trying to work outside the system.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:32 AM

true. It is like LLyod Dobbler said: "I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed,
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:32 AM

But Dennis! Google's motto used to be "don't be evil" !!! (He whines like a little boy.)
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:32 AM

★ Spotlighted from Timothy McDaniel

lol Youtube isn't a career , its a lifestyle .

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:33 AM

Timothy- for a while YouTube was my career.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:33 AM

So what's your career now?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:33 AM

Lee- great question.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:34 AM

YouTube still provides some money for me, but I do much more freelance work.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:34 AM

Do you prefer the studio stuff or the street protest stuff?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:35 AM

I prefer the street protest stuff ....
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:35 AM

Tough to keep your eye on the camera when you're hit with the pepper spray?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:35 AM

I am married with 2 kids- so it is hard for me to be on the road all of the time chasing or participating in protetss
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:35 AM

... but i much prefer to be in the streets.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:36 AM

pepper spray makes a lot of things tough. i thought i was tough until i had to deal with pepper spray.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:36 AM

That protest we were at that night during Occupy Congress was one of the best. Totally great. Felt real. It felt alive.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:37 AM

Lee- yes. When everyone rushed the steps of the Supreme Court! It felt like revolution was actually possible.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:37 AM

That was indeed amazing. And it felt like our voices mattered because there were thousands.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:38 AM

Do the kids change your view of the world? Do they make you wanna fight harder or wanna go live on a farm and keep them away from everything?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:38 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lucy Dyer

you aint gonna get anywhere with having a go at it first. if one way of getting your message across dont work, try another way. theres ALWAYS away

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:38 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lisa Bonitatibus

They always use that saying 'boots on the ground', we need some 'boots on the ground' here. More people need to get off their asses and do something...the protests in other countries make ours look sad

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:38 AM

Lisa - I fel that way until occupy.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:39 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

Has anyone thought of getting a ton of people together, marching into the capital, and laying down all over the place? Like hardcore peaceful protesting?

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:39 AM

Andrew - You mean a massive die-in. I'm a fan of that.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:39 AM

My kids make me want to fight harder/. My kids also give me very real world concerns like "how am i gonna help them with college?" so there is a balance I find myself failing at sometimes.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:40 AM

But even one person can matter - did you see that granny who chained herself to the Keystone equipment?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:40 AM

as in- i think they will be proud of me when they get older, but i may not have much else to offer them
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:40 AM

Thats a pretty big thing to offer though.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:40 AM

thanks. one hopes.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:40 AM

A lotta people can't offer that to anyone. Ha.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:41 AM

You know how many Angry Bird professionals there are out there thinking, "One day my kids will be proud.... No, no they won't."
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:41 AM

yes, i feel lucky to have stumbled into the work i am doing now.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:41 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

I would join in a massive die-in given the opportunity. Push past the guards, push past the politicians, take back our capital.

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:42 AM

Why does it feel like stumbling? How'd you get into it?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:42 AM

i used to be an actor. theater director. then i was a teacher. ...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:42 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

I'm putting on the soundtrack to Les Mis as we speak

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:42 AM

Jordan - don't forget that Parisian rebels have British accents.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:42 AM

i quit the regular teaching gig to try and write for TV ...
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:43 AM

★ Spotlighted from Other Possibilities

what about coordinated massive SILENT marches ala the Zapatistas in Dec, 40k + VERY powerful

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:43 AM

as a side gig, i sytarted doing YouTube videos... then Dennis Kucinish hired me, and that has lead to years of making political content for youtube
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:43 AM

Other - I have never seen anything as powerful as the silent vigil outside the dean's office following the pepper spray incident at UC Davis
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:44 AM

Dennis - So you weren't as politicized until you just happened to start making those videos?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:44 AM

no, i was politicized. but not tapped into an activist network.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:45 AM

i spent the early years of my childrens lives in "provider" mode. head down. make money, etc.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:45 AM

★ Spotlighted from Charles Henry

Ways to organize a massive political march ... also make it the worlds largest wet T-Shirt contest ...

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:45 AM

...but i still managed to get arrested from time to time,
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:45 AM

Charles - I'm liking all these ideas. I need to start writing them down.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:46 AM

But those early arrests for the bestiality porn.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:46 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

Dennis Kucinich is a certified hero in my book.

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:46 AM

ha! yes. the beastiality porn is a mark that will never leave my record.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:46 AM

Dennis - Jordan would like to hear about your arrests.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:46 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

Why did Dennis get arrested?

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:47 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lucy Dyer

you REALLY wanna get your message across to a larger audience? do stuff about things that are going on other places not just the US. yes i know thats where you live but you have fans else where too. is that really too much to ask?

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:47 AM

my 1st arrest was in 1990 (ish?) arrested with ACT UP! we shut down the Holland Tunnel in NYC
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:47 AM

Dickies - I don't know if you're talking to me, but I do videos about other lands. I did one called "The Euro was designed to fail"
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:47 AM

my latest arrest was w. Cornel West on the steps of the Supreme Court.Spent 24hrs in jail with Cornel signing motown.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:48 AM

Does that mean Cornel and you are besties for life? I would imagine jail would create fast friends.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:48 AM

Jordan all of my arrests have been doing non violent CD/CR
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:49 AM

Cornel does not currently return my phone calls. I think he is seeing someone else.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:49 AM

So Dennis, as long as we have ten mins left, let's all come up with the next protest we're gonna do. Someone said wet t-shirt contest with a thousand people?
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:49 AM

I don;t know Jordon, ACT UP in the 80s and 90s were rally cool in my book
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:49 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

Dude - you got arrested before it was even COOL to get arrested

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:50 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lisa Bonitatibus

That one doesn't count Dennis cause that actually sounds like fun :)

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:50 AM

ok lee- the next protest, let me think
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:50 AM

How about a massive foam party? I'm not sure why though.
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:51 AM

True Lisa, i was kind of fun
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:51 AM

I wanna do something in a walmart.... seeing as it destroyed america and all.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:51 AM

★ Spotlighted from Lisa Bonitatibus

No it has to be free beer

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:52 AM

You know how they're already digging the Keystone Pipeline? We should have some kind of massive Burning Man-esque party on the construction site.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:52 AM

★ Spotlighted from Charles Henry

Ha we could initiate a sit-in blocking the TWO registers they have open at any time

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:52 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

A massive wet T-shirt contest, foam party, death to walmart rally inside walmarts nationwide?

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:53 AM

Apparently it's rather difficult to arrest naked people.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:53 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jordan Birnbaum

especially covered in foam

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:54 AM

i think a yesmen esque video announcing wal-mart is going union. but prices will remain the same b/c with cuts to CEO pay, we can give everyone a raise
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:54 AM

Whoa, Dennis, I love that.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:55 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

Dude, I worked at walmart. There is no such thing as a raise.

DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:55 AM

or a fake pres conf where the US dept of labor announces that wages will have to go up b/c the govt will no longer subsidize food stamps and medicaid for wal mart employees
DT

Dennis Trainor · 12:56 AM

or bestiality foam covered porn...... in the gun isle of wal mart with the obama girl in a wet t shirt hosting the event on live stream?
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:56 AM

Maybe we could do a fake press conference announcing that cows would no longer be subsidized. So a McDonald's hamburger would now cost $60.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:56 AM

I like that idea. And I bet Obama girl has some time on her hands.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:56 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rebecca Westbrook Toker

I LOVE the Yesmen-esque video idea! Perfect!

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:57 AM

★ Spotlighted from Andrew Sampson

I feel like we are completely out gunned in this fight. We need better weapons. A better strategy. Protesting is great and all, but there has to be something that really drives it home for real change.

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:58 AM

Andrew - If we got money out of politics we wouldn't be outgunned.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 12:58 AM

Maybe we'll have to save that solution for the next conversation
