Jack Terry · 2:00 PM

Good morning friend and neighbors. I'm here with Jennifer to talk about the upcoming movie "Hunger Games-Mockingjay, part one." How are you Jennifer?
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:01 PM

Hi, Jack!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:01 PM

Don't ever say that in an airport!
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:01 PM

LOL!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:01 PM

So are you a Hunger Games fan?
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:03 PM

I loved Hunger Game books. It took me a looooong time to agree to read them. My son kept telling me I'd like them, but the idea of children fighting children to the death didn't appeal to me as a mom. I finally caved and LOVED the first book.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:04 PM

Ha! Without having kids I've never been concerned with the "children killing children aspect!"
JT

Jack Terry · 2:05 PM

Not that I condone that of course. I never read the HUnger Games book because i felt embrarassed as an adult to go to the bookstore or library.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:05 PM

It actually comes off as exciting and suspenseful rather than icky.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:05 PM

I have been catching up on the movies because I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence and Donald Sutherland.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:06 PM

Suspenseful is good, that what keeps people enthralled. Have you read all of the Hunger Games books?
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:06 PM

I didn't have to go to the library or a book store, my son owned the books. I finished The Hunger Games and handed it to him saying, now give me Catching Fire. Finished Catching Fire and said hand over Mockingjay!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:07 PM

Awesome! I guess I could have gone to Amazon.com to get them! What is a Mockingjay anyway?
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:07 PM

Donald Sutherland is soooooo creepy as President Snow. He was perfect in a make you hate kind of way.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:08 PM

Donald Sutherland is gotten creepier as he's gotten older, and in the new Mockingjay trailer that just came out, his creepieness is over the top.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:08 PM

Yes, I read all the books, but I've only see The Hunger Games on screen.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:09 PM

I wonder how people will feel about Mockingjay being split into two books. I know it was done successfully with the Breaking Dawn book (I almost said "Breaking Bad!")
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:11 PM

A Mockingjay is a a hybrid bird--fictional made up by author Suzanne Collins just for the Hunger Game series.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:11 PM

I thought it sounded made up!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:12 PM

"So a mocking bird and a blue jay walk into a bar..."
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:12 PM

You mean two movies? I think it's probably a good thing. Think about any book that gets turned into a movie? What do people complain about? "They cut out____" When a book is turned into 2 movies, it's a lot longer so less needs to be cut out.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:13 PM

Is that a real joke?
JT

Jack Terry · 2:13 PM

That's a good pint. The cynic is me thinks its a money grab, but by doing HUnger Games: Mocking Jay" parts one and two, they can be sure to get more into it.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:14 PM

Sure, I can make it a joke if you want me to!
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:14 PM

Definitely more money, but I think more story.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:14 PM

My proofreader stepped away for a moment. That was supposed to read "That's a good point. The cynic in me..."
JT

Jack Terry · 2:15 PM

There was a lot of backlash against Peter jackson splitting "The Hobbit" into three movies. People felt that there were too many extra characters added and the plot became too thin to support so much movie.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:16 PM

When I think of the worst hack jobs of turning a book into a movie I think of Jurassic Park. Michael Crichton wrote this page-tuner of all page turners and the movie was over in a blink! They cut everything! They combined several characters into
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:17 PM

one. They switched the kids. Instead of a tween boy and young girl, it was a tween girl and young boy...to appeal to tween boys presumably!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:18 PM

The problem with taking any book like Hunger Games, The Hobbit or Jurassic park is that the fans are so passionate that any change will get them up in arms about it.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:19 PM

What you're saying is actually the opposite of what I'm talking about. Now the movie is ruined by adding. If the making a book into 2 movies maintains the integrity of the story with less cutting and NO adding, I'm in favor of it!
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:19 PM

Passion is a good word.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:20 PM

Oh definitely. Just because you can add somethign doesn't mean you should, but if splitting the book into two movies helps you make a better movie, then by all means go for it.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:20 PM

And nobody is more passionate than fans of Young Adult books.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:21 PM

So, on the scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you about the movie Hunger Games: Mockingjay?
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:21 PM

It's funny what you said about the cynic in you and thinking it comes down to money. I've been very cynical about the fact that (it seems to me) every young adult book being introduced into the marketplace is now part of a series.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:21 PM

You can't just buy A book. They're all part of a set.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:22 PM

Serials are the name of the game, and a whole other topic!
JT

Jack Terry · 2:22 PM

Well jennifer it's been fun. We'll have to get togther in November and review the movie!
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:23 PM

How excited am I? I'm not sure. I liked The Hunger Games movie and I like Jennifer Lawrence. It was good, but I wondered if you would know what was going on if you hadn't read the book first.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:23 PM

I haven't seen Catching Fire yet. I am looking forward to Mockingjay the movie because I think it will be ess choppy being 2 movies.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:24 PM

I'll watch anything with Jennifer Lawrence! I followed the first movie pretty well and hadn't read the book, which is a testament what a thorough job making the movie.
JT

Jennifer Terry · 2:24 PM

Thanks for the chat!
