SEO. Net Neutrality. Open Internet. This stuff is hugely important, and most of us (including me) don't really understand what it all means. So our own Jennifer Finnell is stepping in and helping out, as she explains how the Internet can be used for good, and how the bad guys are trying to ruin it.

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:00 AM

Ms. Finnell, I presume?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:00 AM

Well, hello!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:00 AM

Welcome back to the Tawkers stage!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:00 AM

Such a pleasure to be here with you
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:00 AM

Happy to be here, Jordan!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:01 AM

I think we should start with a quick shout out to Rachel McDonnell who is the source of our friendship
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:01 AM

Hello, everyone! Thanks for joining us tonight1
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:01 AM

Absolutely! Hey, Rae Rae!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:01 AM

and was wise enough to invite you into this universe
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:02 AM

All part of the bigger picture. :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:02 AM

OK - so you and I got to speaking about a number of topics
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:02 AM

and as I mentioned in the description, things like SEO and net neutrality kept emerging
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:02 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle

So what's the topic? I'm confused...

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:02 AM

Yes...always so much that seems to need discussing.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:03 AM

Yeah - I realize the title might be a bit too cryptic.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:03 AM

Yes. Important topics that confuse the heck out of the majority of us, but SEO impacts a whole lot of things in our lives that we probably don't even realize.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:03 AM

But I would say that the theme behind everything we're going to discuss is "fighting for the little guy"
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:04 AM

fair to say?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:04 AM

That's right. Leveling the playing field between Average Jane/Joe and corporate America, for starters...
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:04 AM

more specifically, fighting for the little guy specifically on the Internet, and beyond…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:05 AM

drat - I used specifically twice in one sentence.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:05 AM

OK -so why don't we start with a quick definition of SEO
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:05 AM

lol. You're forgiven.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:05 AM

this is a forgiving crowd…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:05 AM

thank god
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:05 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

the little guy could use some help... ok ALOT of help.

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle

Not forgiven says the editor

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

(I know which Jen I want to work for…)
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:06 AM

Sure. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and, though it takes on many forms, it's basically the means by which the search engines sift through all the information available.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle

I wouldn't be so sure, Jordan!

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

lol
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

ill reconside
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:06 AM

recinsder
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:07 AM

It's how they find your content, website, etc. and connect you with the people who are out there looking for you.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:07 AM

reconsider - dam this is a nightmare!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:07 AM

OK -so the search engines sift through everything on the Internet to try to match your requests, right?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:07 AM

Basically, yes.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:08 AM

but they look at a lot of different things to determine relevancy in the search results.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:08 AM

And does anyone know how much of Internet surfing is driven by the search engines? I would imagine it's a huge percentage…
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:08 AM

The answer to that is unquantifiable. Huge, yes.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:09 AM

So, search engines have become literally one of the most powerful forces in the world.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:10 AM

They influence practically everything we do. Where we shop, what recipe we cook for dinner, the way we view certain people, whether that perception is accurate or not.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:10 AM

quick side note -anyone remember the early search engines like Lycos, Excite, Alta Vista…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:11 AM

they sure didn't optimize…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:11 AM

Metacrawler!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:11 AM

Think about this...how many times do you go to Google something, and a list of "suggestions" pops up before you're even finished typing in your request?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:11 AM

Lol. I remember learning to program C language in high school. I don't care what you think of Bill Gates personally, but thank God for windows!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:12 AM

wow you trumped you! OK, but back on point:
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:12 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rebecca Westbrook Toker

Considered from that angle, search engines are now disconcerting.

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:13 AM

I agree Rebecca. We have to be careful to monitor the influence all our modern sources of media have on the decisions we make.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:13 AM

Frighteningly close, Sean. Human-machine interfaces already exist to an extent. There's quite a bit of research and experimentation in the prosthetics fields along those lines.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:13 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rebecca Westbrook Toker

Even at the farmer's market, I ask if the folks have websites and Facebook pages. No kidding. The guys who won't touch computers don't do as well, including the divide between the Square swipers and the cash-only booths. Internet presence is relevant

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:13 AM

It's true. So what do we know about the process of how search works?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:14 AM

And that's what this Tawk is really about, Rebecca.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:14 AM

The flip side is that if you remain disconnected, you don't have the tools to compete in business.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:14 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

Critical thinking skills are imperative. We need to be able to sift through all the stuff and get to the truth.

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:14 AM

And that's where good SEO comes in, especially for the "little guy."
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:15 AM

So explain what SEO does, and then how that translates to leveling the playing field.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:15 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

we need to teach logical thinking and get rid of the emotional warfare they currently use to lure consumers in

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:16 AM

Well, the search engines take your request and evaluate all the stuff out there in the great, wide, web to determine which items are the most relevant.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:16 AM

and it has to apply some sort of judgment to do that
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:16 AM

They look for keywords, but also interconnectedness with other, related websites, etc.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:17 AM

Current traffic levels are a factor, which creates a bit of a catch-22 in the beginning, as you need traffic to get traffic, but there are ways to get the ball rolling on that.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:17 AM

just a quick sidestep:
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:17 AM

Rachel, I think the emotional warfare is part of the new NeuroMarketing movement, that really motivates people to commit based on fear and anxiety just as much as pleasure.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:18 AM

now that's the subject for a new Tawk!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:18 AM

sorry - back on point
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:18 AM

Yeah...very insightful, Sean!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:18 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

Like it or not, but technology, especially search engines are reprogramming our minds and changing the "human condition" on a fundamental scale. We no longer have to remember what we learn... we only need to remember where we found the information...

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:18 AM

wow good point
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:19 AM

Well, if this all sounds confusing, that's because it is. It's no wonder that the average business person has difficulty figuring out how to get to page one and, let's face it, no one really looks past page one. We are a society addicted to instant
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:19 AM

gratification, after all.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:19 AM

Good point, Tim
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:20 AM

So I have to imagine that big business and financial interests have made it so that the big players get all the advantages from search results. True?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:20 AM

You got it.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:20 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

Yeah @ Jennifer, I never look past page 1

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:20 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle

No one does Julie...that is the benefit of using the search engines to your advantage. SEO

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:21 AM

On the other hand, the freedom allowed by all this technology can give small businesses a big advantage if they know how to use it to their advantage.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:21 AM

Search engines have become something akin to the political battleground. Those with the money get the exposure, ensuring they get more money.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:21 AM

but ultimately, it's a tough nut to crack. but SEO is like a nutcracker?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:22 AM

Okay, so it's true that whoever spends the most gets to the top. BUT, when you play your cards right, there are ways to be the very next in line - or the first organic search result in your niche.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:22 AM

Nutcracker, yes. lol.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:23 AM

Google likes to play games. They like to change everything up just when you think you're starting to understand how it works and then you're back at square one.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:23 AM

So we understand what SEO is trying to do, which is to improve a person or organization's positioning within search engine results. How do you do it?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:23 AM

They like to keep things mysterious so that they can charge people for rankings. Not cool.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:24 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

google is not the most ethical company in the world... :p

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:24 AM

We outsmart them, of course!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:24 AM

you know, when they were first getting started, they made a pledge: Don't Be Evil.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:24 AM

I think that might have gotten tosses at the IPO, though…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:24 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rich Hagberg

enter greed

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:25 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

money corrupts... it is sad though I used to love and admire google and it's organization's mission

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:25 AM

That's generally the first thing abandoned with an IPO, Jordan =/
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:25 AM

two interesting perspectives:
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:25 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

I think Google changes frequently to protect their status as the premiere search engine... if they don't, someone else will come along and overshadow the Giant that is Google...

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:25 AM

Maybe it's not greed, but organic evolution, survival. Like an organism.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:25 AM

Every client is different, so every approach we develop is customized. But, in a "nutshell", we create organic search result rankings via targeted and keyword optimized content creation and distribution.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:26 AM

so you actually create content specifically designed to be "attractive" to the search engine's judgment?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:26 AM

I just use Google as the example. The issues are basically the same across the board. It's just that Google sets the standard.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:27 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rich Hagberg

so a greedy defensive organism? LOL

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:27 AM

Yes we do. But that wouldn't do much good if it weren't also useful to the human reader. We write for both.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:27 AM

I see. So that requires a deft touch.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:27 AM

Let me give you an example.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:28 AM

Say you want to sell, oh, I don't know, unicycles...
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:28 AM

in this economy?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:28 AM

Now, you're not the only unicycle shop in town, of course.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:29 AM

Well, yes...they're quite fuel efficient. :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:29 AM

someone else is selling unicycles?!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:29 AM

Now, I, as the consumer, am not going to look at the newspaper ads for unicycles. I am not going to drive around town looking for a unicycle shop. I am going to Google unicycles.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:30 AM

exactly
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:31 AM

Granted there's not bound to be a lot of competition in this example, but unless my unicycle shop comes up on the first page - preferable at the top - not only am I not going to find your unicycle shop, but I'm going to find your COMPETITOR instead!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:31 AM

yes. that's a business killer right there.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:31 AM

Sorry - my unicycle shop, not yours. Who wants a unicycle shop anyway. lol
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:32 AM

That's why in the phone book days you would name your store AAAA Unicycles
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:32 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

So true Jordan. Front of the alphabet gets the attention.

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:32 AM

Now, how do I get to page one? Lots of ways, which all involve outsmarting Google unless I just want to funnel all of my profits into a non-descript advertising campaign through Google directly.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:33 AM

YES!!! That's exactly right, Jordan!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:33 AM

In other words, be a giant corporation that can afford it.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:33 AM

★ Spotlighted from Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle

Rich, did you hear that? No matter what your company name "AAA" ;or Zeke's unicycles...with SEO you can be the first in the "phone book."

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:33 AM

this Tawk is a real boon for the unicycle industry
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:34 AM

Yep. Good news though. Organically driven results are not only attainable on a reasonable budget when done correctly, but they also last.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:34 AM

An ad campaign stops the minute you stop paying for it. Organic SEO results remain long after the campaign has stopped, and, better yet, are super easy to maintain once the goal ranking has been achieved with a little maintenance.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:35 AM

And THIS is how the little unicycle shop can compete with Unicycle*Mart and stay in business.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:36 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rich Hagberg

SEO is cool!

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:36 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

It is similar to the main street stores competing with Walmart

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:36 AM

I think that the average consumer genuinely wants to support small and local businesses - they just don't have the time to go out in search of their products/services.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:36 AM

All right! Excellent job explaining SEO! So are there a lot of companies rushing into this business?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:37 AM

Well, a lot of companies are hesitant, and understandably so.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:37 AM

One reason is that they've been sold something before that they spent way too much money on and never understood just what they were getting, which, in many cases, wasn't much.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:38 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

So how does Net Neutrality fit into this Tawk about SEO?

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:38 AM

The other main reason is that, for the most part, this is sort of an "imaginary" product - until the results start to show,, that is.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:38 AM

Net Neutrality is ther next topic. The parallel is that they are both about protecting the little guy from being shut out on the Internet.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:38 AM

So how is Team Wildflower blazing a path in this emerging market?
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:39 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

That makes sense.

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:39 AM

thanks!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:39 AM

Net Neutrality means the search engines can't discriminate or - even better - play favorites. So, even though they would rather reserve the whole first page for the big boys, they can't. That's how we can still get in.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:39 AM

Ahh...the shameless self-promotion part - my fave! :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:40 AM

OK - quick step back to Team Wildflower, a company I LOVE!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:40 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

How do you get the little guy to trust you?

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:40 AM

Thank you very much! TWF is different in a lot of ways, the most important of which, I believe, is that we're real people with real dedication to helping small businesses succeed.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:41 AM

WEll I can attest too your authenticity on that front!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:41 AM

I can't help but spew a lot of mumbo jumbo in the explanation of what we're going to do for a business when we devise a custom plan, and that's just because it's a lot of techno-speak, but I do make sure that my clients have the best possible underst
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:42 AM

anding of just what we're going to do and what they can expect before moving forward.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:42 AM

Yes, Julie - great question. By talking to them. By listening to their concerns, their challenges. By exercising some good old-fashioned customer service!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:43 AM

Would you take on Exxon Mobil as a client?
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:43 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

Evil @ Jordan :-)

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:43 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Hochman

I would take them on and sabotage their site

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:44 AM

I'm just being playful!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:44 AM

I certainly wouldn't turn down a huge account like that - we are a small business, too, afterall. But I can't say they would get the same personal attention that we give to our one-on-one clients - they become part of the Wildflower family.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:44 AM

As discriminatory as that sounds, it's the truth. :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:44 AM

I don't they need SEO anyway…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:44 AM

they can afford to buy their placement
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:45 AM

Yes, Julie. Arbuckle likes to explain it as we are the people in black, backstage. The landscape changes on the stage, though you never saw them do it. :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:45 AM

OK - so are we ready to shift to Open Internet?
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:45 AM

We're the Roadies!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:45 AM

You betcha.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:46 AM

OK - so Open Internet and Net Neutrality mean the same thing, right?
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:46 AM

As far as my understanding goes, they basically refer to the same principal, though each term is used a little differently depending upon whether the person using it is a fan or not. lol
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:47 AM

Now I was under the same impression as Tim:
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:47 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

I thought the whole Net Neutrality thing was about the internet providers pulling shady stuff... not search engines.

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:47 AM

As I understand it, this is controlled by the ISPs themselves -the people who actually provide the Internet access
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:48 AM

I could have it mixed up. That sounds right. I just know how to jump through the necessary hoops is all. :)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:48 AM

OK - so as I understand it:
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:48 AM

I don't believe SOPA or similar political movements will ever truly go away. The current freedom of the internet is a far too appetizing target for politicians to clamp down on.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:49 AM

SOPA was a bill that was intended to allow ISPs to give fast Internet access to their customers when they visited certain sites, and crap access when they visited other ones
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:49 AM

See? It's confusing! That's why I keep guys like Tim on board to help me keep it straight! ;)
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:50 AM

So imagine if Walmart could pay AT&T, then Walmart's site would have perfect service.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:50 AM

But our unicycle shop, which couldn't pay, would take forever to load.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:50 AM

★ Spotlighted from Tim Hiller

The internet providers are the gateway to the internet, after that, the internet is pretty much a free for all...

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:50 AM

But SOPA was also intended to stop piracy, which is another important issue.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:51 AM

I think the argument was that was a front for the true intentions
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:51 AM

SOPA had a lot more attached under that particular hood, Jordan. That was the "public" face of the bill, but underneath it had provisions to allow government officials the authority to shut down service or sites at whim, based on hidden criteria that
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:52 AM

exactly. So if they decided they didn't people to watch "Moment Of Clarity," they could make it so the site never loaded for anyone.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:52 AM

It's like the digital-age version of Farhenheit 411.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:52 AM

exactly right.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:53 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

All in the name of keeping the nation safe, I am sure.

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:53 AM

so where SEO is an alternative to corporate interests owning search engine placement, Net Neutrality is an alternative to corporate domination through Internet access.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:53 AM

"Protecting" us from our own freedom, Julie?
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:53 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

Moment of Clarity shout out! NICE!

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:54 AM

Well put, Jordan.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:54 AM

so I think that's where these two movements really come together well.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:54 AM

I was, and continue to be, inspired by the amount of mobilization this issue has created on the Internet
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:55 AM

Yes, they do. It's how the little guys sneak through the cracks to emerge on top.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:55 AM

★ Spotlighted from Julie Myers

I have hope. I am seeing the little guy standing up and shouting "we are not going to take this anymore"

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:56 AM

Well, I think on the Open Internet front, we have to be constantly vigilant. Because I keep reading about new challenges emerging in the courts
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:56 AM

And as long as that continues to be possible, we will keep making it happen. The day it becomes impossible, I'm afraid we're all doomed. lol
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:56 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Hochman

If SOPA passed AT&T, Comcast, Time Warner and Verizon would simply divide up the whole country

JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:57 AM

I think you're right, Jordan. It's when the people stop paying attention that this stuff gets pushed on us.
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:57 AM

so a sense of hope seems to be emerging from the forum…
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:57 AM

It's starting to happen all over the world, Julie. It's an interesting time to be around, that's for sure!
Jordan Birnbaum

The vigilantes!
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:58 AM

well, I think this is a case in point.
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:58 AM

You know...we could put out a pretty extensive SEO campaign to make sure the population is aware of this fight...
Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:58 AM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

that's the thing people need to settle in for the long haul we will be fighting for internet freedom probably for decades at least.. people need to get used to fighting back

Jordan Birnbaum

Jordan Birnbaum · 2:58 AM

Wow -that's very interesting. So I always thought of SEO as for a person or company, not an idea!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:59 AM

Right Rachel. Complacency is the worst thing...
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:59 AM

Nope...we can use it to distribute information in any way, shape or form!
JF

Jennifer Finnell · 2:59 AM

I can hear you thinking now...it's loud. lol
