Seeing as July 4th is almost here (And in the US that means we celebrate by blowing things up) we decided this was a good time to talk about INDEPENDENCE from corporate rule.

It also happens that we are only one day removed from the Supreme Court's decision that corporations and companies are YET AGAIN people and therefore apparently have the right to force their religion on people.
Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:03 PM

It's yet another example of how all issues tie back into corporate rule.

When everything we do, socially and politically can be traced back to the corrupting influence of money in politics...yeah, time to shift that power
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 11:03 PM

Kimba - you nailed it. We're covering this story on this week's Redacted Tonight.

Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:11 PM

It's something Lessig is tapping into and raising money for the "People's PAC" in an effort to get people elected into congress who actually give a shit about their constituents below the top 1%
Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:11 PM

★ Spotlighted from phil chipper

But the mind control is so deeply rooted, not sure if we can wake up enough people for critical mass saturation. Still gotta try though

Lee Camp

★ Spotlighted from Steven Palmer

I think we can't build sustainable movement until we have independent information networks, Facebook has us in it's pocket.

Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:15 PM

@Chris - that's a huge point. It's damn difficult to get a national movement to be cohesive and well pointed. It's not like the original American Revolution with only 13 damn colonies
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 11:15 PM

Steven - true. You know there are some opensource, non-profit activist versions of facebook but they haven't taken off yet. They seem rather small.

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:19 PM

I mean, hell - I'm sitting in a cafe with my apple computer

the problem with lobby groups running shit is nothing ever really gets done for the good of the people ....solution drown all lobbyists

Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:20 PM

@Steven - a lot of fundraising campaigns and independent news outlets do that. It's one of the reasons why net neutrality is so damn important
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 11:20 PM

★ Spotlighted from Rachel McDonnell

I used to believe that catch-22, now I am thinking the only true innovators had to work outside out some sort of existing system, basically all good things have come from people choosing to exist outside these systems

Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 11:21 PM

Yeah net neutrality is crucial - which is part of the reason they're going after it.
Lee Camp

Lee Camp · 11:21 PM

★ Spotlighted from Chris McCamic

I've given up on our conventional political process. Anything good we get out of it at this point will because we took initiative ourselves and forced them to run to the front of the crowd and yell "follow me" to still look like they're driving.

Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield

Eleanor Goldfield · 11:22 PM

@Kevin - one of the ways towards that concept is a 28th amendment.

Lucy, I think you're spot on, not enough people even care and I'm afraid it may have to get way worse before enough people wake up and unite.
