I was expecting the Cleveland Browns to take him for their first pick which was the #4 overall but they traded the pick to Buffalo who snagged up Blake Bortles

Well, that's exactly the point. Starting out in ANY career, you have to prove yourself & work your way to the place you want to be. Too much ego can definitely be a killjoy when you fail to see the tremendous opportunity in front of you -
