The NFL rosters are set, so now it's time to find out who's hot and who's not. Join Jack and Jeff as they discuss the choices made by teams, the first week match-ups, the year end predictions and who's best for your fantasy football team.

JT

Jack Terry · 1:00 AM

Hello Jeff!
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:00 AM

Hi Jack! Are we ready to tawk about somefootball?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:00 AM

Always ready for some NFL, especially since week one is on the doorstep. Lots of big news coming out today. Where do you want to start?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:01 AM

First let me say thank you for having me, tell your mom to send the check right to my house.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:01 AM

Actually she's upgraded to direct deposit! You know, one of my first memories of you is 6th grade playing football at recess so it's only appropriate we tawk some football 30 years later.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:02 AM

I remember that day, some fool playing in a tshirt in January...
JT

Jack Terry · 1:02 AM

Fool would be right!
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:02 AM

But, we need to start with Wes Welker.... PED's?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:03 AM

Yup! So much for passing the concussion tests. 4 weeks, and there's a rumor it wasn't just Adderall, but Molly as well.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:03 AM

Kentucky Derby..... Something was fishy that day.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:04 AM

You think somebody slipped him something in his Mint Julep?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:04 AM

Between Welker and the PEDs, and Jim Irsay getting his suspension handed down today, I blam Peyton!
JT

Jack Terry · 1:05 AM

HA! Yeah, he's such a bad seed. 6 games and 500K for Jim Isray. I dunno, that seems a bit harsh.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:06 AM

Well, for him, a drop in the bucket. He doesn't add anything competitively anyway. He'll probably rent out his owner's box to cover the fine anyway.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:07 AM

Not a bad idea. More disciplinary action today as well. Dallas Cowboy Josh Brown suspended 10 games by the NFL for his intoxication manslaughter when he killed his teammate.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:08 AM

Crap can't read my own handwriting. Josh Brent.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:08 AM

But, he was reinstated. Which may be a surprise for some. I'm on the fence about this one. Being directly responsible for the death of a teammate seems like a hard place to live. 10 games is nada compared with that anchor around your nack forever
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:09 AM

Or even around your neck...
JT

Jack Terry · 1:09 AM

Yeah I wasn't thilled to see him on the sidelines two weeks after the accident. I don't know. A lot of this sounds a bit like double jeopardy. You're penalized by the state, and then again by your employer.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:10 AM

It's the image clause of everyone's contract. NFL protects the shield.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:10 AM

But speaking of the Cowboys' sideline, looks like the Boys have a new defensive player!
JT

Jack Terry · 1:11 AM

And they need one! Michael Sam will be on their practice squad starting tomorrow.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:12 AM

I bet he sees actual 53 man roster time. That defense needs bodies. Even if he's only a passing down specialist and not a 3 down player.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:13 AM

Yeah, I think he'll be there by the middle of the year. They were dead last or right next to it in every major defensive category last year.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:13 AM

And if there's a team that is used to dealing with what could be a media distraction, it's the Cowboys.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:14 AM

In other rookie news, the rookie QB getting the first nod as a starter isn't the one most people imagined I bet.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:15 AM

Derek Carr had a great preseason, ish. But since it's the Raiders, and they are starting 2 other rookies, why not hand over the most important position as well?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:16 AM

Schaub's last season was his worst statistically, and he's got ten years in with a lot of sacks. Although I think it's funny that he's ranked ahead of Carr in Fantasy Football draft sheets.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:16 AM

Of course, so is matthew Stafford, so you can't put too much stock in that.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:16 AM

That's an "efficiency" pick. Haha. Folks figure he won't be in much, but he'll do a little if he plays.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:17 AM

But QB's should be the least of the Fantasy Football players' concerns.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:17 AM

Ranked one spot ahead of Stafford is Brian Hoyer, who lost one of his only targets when the Browns released Nate Burleson.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:18 AM

Oh yeah, Fantasy Football is a running back's game, and the rest of the players are just spectators.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:18 AM

You're assuming Hoyer could hit his targets.....We saw enough of him here in NE to know his worth. Capable backup, but NOT an every game starter.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:18 AM

I said it before, and now I'll double down on it. Johhny Football gets his first start week 5 after the Browns open 0-3 and a bye week.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:18 AM

Ah yes, Fantasy Football, the last bastion of notoriety for the Running Back.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:19 AM

Every down players chewing up yards.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:20 AM

I'm with you on Manziel, but I still say he goes the way of the Doug Fluties, the Cordell Stewarts, and every "mobile" QB with ZERO training on pocket presence.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:20 AM

That might be unfair to Flutie...
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:21 AM

Manziel has happy feet, was trained to have happy feet. He's too arrogant to learn 3 and 5 step drops. No patience to do his progressions. No nerve to pass from a collapsing pocket.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:21 AM

A little unfair of Flutie, but I know whereof you speak. One last rookie I want to bring in on the QB carousel is Teddy Bridgewater not getting the nod in Minnesota and the Vikes going with Matt Cassel instead.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:22 AM

He never needed to learn them because he was scouted to be the perfect QB for the Texas A&M system. Look at the guy who replaced him. Just broke a bunch of his records in his first game.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:22 AM

The Vikes are letting Teddy B settle in, a rare act of maturity in the "win now" mentality of the league.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:23 AM

Yeah, but as bad as Schaub is, I think he's the more capable veteran over Cassel.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:23 AM

He got hot at the right time in New England and has been less than mediocre lately.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:24 AM

Agreed, but let's move on to a proven winner, someone who has the stuff to play the game every day, if he stays healthy. That's right, Robert "Yo Soy Fiesta" Gronkowski is BACK baby!
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:25 AM

Well, according to him anyway....hehe.....did you see where coach Bill commented on his declaring himself ready to play?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:25 AM

Yeah, but this is Bill (Injury reports? I don't need to issue no stinkin' injury reports" Bellichek. Of course he's gonna say he's not ready.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:26 AM

He totally pulled a "you're not the boss of you" in his press conference, classic Bill.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:27 AM

So, as a pats fan living in the heart of Bahstahn Tawk radio, what do you think? Start, limited action or cheerleader against the Dolphins?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:27 AM

Start. 2 TD's, and at least one penalty for celebrating. No question.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:28 AM

Spoken like someone who is used to the Gronk. This is a perfect segue into making some picks for this week, and let's start there. New England in Miami: who ya' got?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:29 AM

Pats all day. Miami O line is all brand new. They haven't had enough time to gel. Pats offense is good even when it's bad, and Brady finally has the weapons the fans have been clamoring for. You?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:30 AM

I think you're right. I think Miami needs the win to make a statement, and I think they can keep it a game, but Pats by ten in the end. We'll get my team out of the way by asking it this way: How badly to the 49er's embarrass the Cowgirls at home?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:32 AM

49er's are a bit of a mystery this year. Some power rankings have them ranked first overall, but as a dear friend of mine has so astutely pointed out, defenses have had time to figure Kapernick out a bit. So I think this one's closer than we think.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:32 AM

I'd say SF by 3. Dallas comes out excited, but in typical Dallas fashion finds a way to throw up on themselves in the end.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:33 AM

C'mon! This is the first year the Cowboys have gone winless in the preseason in like 30 years. And it's the Cowboys! You know I want them to whup the 49er's, but I don't see them scoring more than twice. Niners by 17.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:33 AM

What's your must watch game of the week? (Other than your Pats.)
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:34 AM

Seatlle Green Bay should be fun, but I gotta say I like the Denver Indy game.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:34 AM

Peyton Manning i Derek Jeter to NE fans. We HATE to see him win, but we have to respect him.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:35 AM

is Derek*
JT

Jack Terry · 1:35 AM

That should be a great matchup, and a lot closer now that Welker's gonna be out. They're also missing their kicker and one of the D line starters as well.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:36 AM

Denver has the worst first 4 games in the league. Hard, hard games.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:36 AM

Personally I hope the packers smash the Seahawks. I can't stand pete Carroll and it will be nice revenge from the botched scab ref game.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:37 AM

I like Pete Carroll the way I like car wrecks. I want to see and know what happened, but I certainly don't want to be involved.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:38 AM

I tell ya, that Raiders Jets game could be fun, in a post apocalyptic univers Mad Max kinda way. Just bodies flying, chaos everywhere.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:38 AM

That's a great description. I don't think the Broncos have it too tough. I can say this because JD isn't here, but they should have no problem with the Chiefs and the Raiders.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:38 AM

I have a disturbed soft spot for the Jets this year. I don't know what it is but I think this is the season they finally get it figured out.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:39 AM

plus the added bonus of "Hey rook, welcome to the league" that gang Green is gonna throw at Carr.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:39 AM

Ok, and this is hard.....cuz I'm a Pats fan, but I like Rex Ryan.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:40 AM

I said it. I think he tries really really hard! He;'s like a high school history teaching football coach trying to stay relevant.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:40 AM

He's hard not to like, even after his numbskull of a brother ran the Cowboys defense into the basement.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:41 AM

And I promise your secret is safe with me!
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:41 AM

Thank you. I need to watch Good Will Hunting like 7 times to feel better about my self now.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:41 AM

I think two important games to watch this week are Saints/Falcons and panthers/Bucs, because after they're over nobody needs to pay attention to the NFC South for the rest of the year.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:42 AM

Saints can always be there. And I like the idea of Carolina until that week 3 preseason game against the Pats.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:43 AM

I think the Panthers take it, the Saints are one of the 2 wild cards, and the Bucs and Falcons learn how to play golf. But if Newton goes down, that changes everything.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:44 AM

I have to agree. It's not like Logan Mankins is gonna throw, carry and catch the football after all.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:44 AM

Sniff, sniff, do I smell sour grapes?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:45 AM

Lil bit. Ok, Lions Giants. Whatcha think?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:45 AM

Ummm, can I root for a snowstorm that cancels the game?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:46 AM

I have to says the Lions, mostly because the Giants still don't know what their new offense is doing. The whole NFC East sucks eggs this year. That division will go to the team that sucks the least.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:46 AM

Atta boy Paco! The Detroit um, who? get a chance to beat up on one of those storied franchises ya read about.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:47 AM

New offense, same Eli...
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:47 AM

Unless he's playing the Pats he's Mark Snachez.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:48 AM

and same O line that can't stop a cold. Speaking of beating up on storied franchises, the Texans and J.J. Watt with his huge new contract go to Washington. I see a lot of RGIII being helped up off his backside.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:48 AM

And by go to Washington, I mean play them in Houston.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:49 AM

J.J. Watt is the real deal. No question. I say congrats. But it's still Houston. I'd wear the flak jacket though. And consider glute implants...
JT

Jack Terry · 1:51 AM

I think RG III is the model that all of these mobile QB's-Kaperneck, Wilson, Manziel-need to look at when it comes to longevity in the league. You only last as long as the guys stopping the pass rush survive.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:51 AM

A few minutes left and let's jump into the world of Fantasy Football. Most leagues have made their picks but let's tawk about some sleepers.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:52 AM

Sure. The top picks are easy. Get your Shady McCoy and your Calvin Johnsons. But who do ya think breaks out?
JT

Jack Terry · 1:54 AM

Well, starting with running backs, I'm looking for someone who a team will have to rely on when their QB (cough, cough Eli) can't make a pass, and that's Rashad Jennings.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:54 AM

Shady. I like that!
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:54 AM

Sorry about that, technical diffs. got kicked.
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:55 AM

I gotta tell ya, Shane Vereen will score points for the Pats this year. Ridley won't get as many touches, and Vareen is turning into a better version of a Kevin Faulk. Mark it down.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:56 AM

Good to know. Who would take as your back up QB?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:57 AM

Tough call, half the starters are backups. But I think Mike Vick scores points this year.
JT

Jack Terry · 1:58 AM

He's gonna see some time, that's for sure. Well, Jeff our time is running out so I'll get you out of here with an easy one: who wins it all?
JF

Jeff Falk · 1:59 AM

Easy, ha! My heart says the Pats. The rules will handcuff the Seahawks....I thik Green Bay makes a run. But the Pats win it all. :)
JT

Jack Terry · 2:00 AM

I don't think they get by Denver, aND I think Peyton rides his new ring off into the sunset.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:01 AM

Jeff, thanks for joining me for this NFL tawk. JD will be back next week, but I'm keeping you on speed dial the next time she goes out of town.
JF

Jeff Falk · 2:01 AM

Thats why they play the games! Thanks Jack, this has been fun tawking pigskins with ya.
JT

Jack Terry · 2:02 AM

You too! Tawk to you soon!
