We are doing our first Tawk. Please bear with us as we figure out how it all works. We have decided to pick a subject of renewable energy as we both have an interest in it and have done some research.

WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:00 AM

Hello
KM

kelly mackin · 1:00 AM

should we think about long term interests of the environment as a whole
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:01 AM

I think maybe I should give you a bit of background on myself.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:02 AM

I work at the provincial power company here in Saskatchewan Canada, though I do not represent them in this Tawk
KM

kelly mackin · 1:02 AM

What happens with many technologies that could help us but we don't even know about?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:02 AM

I have interest in wind generators as we're situated at the top of tornado alley
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:02 AM

the environment is overrated
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:03 AM

Hi Rick, are you joking? If not, I'd like to know your point of view on that
KM

kelly mackin · 1:03 AM

Is environment is what we make it or does it exist and we have to live with it?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:03 AM

So we have a few topics written down...
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:04 AM

wind, HHO, nitinol, and everygy is a big topic today in renewables
KM

kelly mackin · 1:04 AM

I would like to know what happened with the information about nitinol that the nay did.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:04 AM

sorry, and every storage is a big topic
KM

kelly mackin · 1:04 AM

navy
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:04 AM

energy storage... i can't type today apparently
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:05 AM

I'll be touring a wind generator facility on March 7th, it's testing the first battery storage device in Canada
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:06 AM

I just happen to live 2 km's from it
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:06 AM

I was going to invite the wife, I have my doubts in her interest... lol
KM

kelly mackin · 1:06 AM

I would like to see people stand up against patent laws.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:07 AM

I agree.... they hold us back in so many ways
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:07 AM

shelved technology would be tremendous help to us
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:08 AM

So one of the big obstacles facing renewables it availability during peak times
KM

kelly mackin · 1:08 AM

The patent laws also bind people who can't afford to create.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:08 AM

the wind doesn't always blow at the right speed to produce power for today's turbines, and of course, the sun isn't always up for solar
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:09 AM

Batteries are one option of course...
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:09 AM

but they are expensive
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:10 AM

an option I find very interesting is CAES, Compressed Air Energy Storage
KM

kelly mackin · 1:10 AM

water currents are pretty consistent but offer new challenges like degradation of materials.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:10 AM

like aqua net?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:10 AM

Compress air in a vessel during peak production times, use the compressed air to turn a turbine in peak usage times
KM

kelly mackin · 1:11 AM

whats aqua net? I'll check it out.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:11 AM

I've never heard of aqua net... can you elaborate please?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:12 AM

when i first heard of CAES, i thought... now we need a big vessel to contain the air....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:12 AM

lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:12 AM

an interesting they're doing is capping an old mine or cavern and compressing the air inside it
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:13 AM

so that can be a pretty big vessel
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:13 AM

most things are dangerous if there aren't proper safeguards in place
KM

kelly mackin · 1:13 AM

compress a lot of air. put it though a turbine.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:14 AM

there are other options if you don't like pumping things into the ground, which actually, i'm kindof leary of myself
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:14 AM

I know there are places in the world, one is in Japan, where they are using peak production times to pump water up a hill and store it, then release it through a turbine to produce electricity in peak times.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:14 AM

ya I like nitinol, magnets, possible for trying to find out zero point.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:15 AM

bigger better baddder batteries
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:15 AM

I like the idea of batteries as well, but they certainly have their disadvantages
KM

kelly mackin · 1:15 AM

need the power for those batteries as well.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:15 AM

ones is that they are costly... largely because the people who own battery companies also own the oil companies....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:16 AM

they also wear down faster than some other options that are currently available
KM

kelly mackin · 1:16 AM

man is born free but everywhere is in chains.lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:16 AM

devils indeed.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:16 AM

those tricky devils
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:17 AM

Germany made the first commercial CAES back in the 70's, I think
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:18 AM

Why we haven't pursued the technology.... it's really startling
KM

kelly mackin · 1:18 AM

even steam power should be relooked at.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:18 AM

i like steam as well
KM

kelly mackin · 1:18 AM

jack nickelson in the 70's with the hydrogen powered car.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:18 AM

I don't know, I majored in computers....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:19 AM

is energy studies even a curriculum in college?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:19 AM

yes but they train a certian way of thinking and that can be limiting.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:19 AM

Steam is so interesting because it's typically made as an external combustion engine, opposed to an internal combustion engine (ECE vs ICE)
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:20 AM

and ECE... you can burn just about anything to heat it
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:20 AM

heck you don't even have to burn anything if you pursue geothermal sources of heat
KM

kelly mackin · 1:20 AM

starlight express?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:21 AM

geothermal is a good option.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:21 AM

Iceland has it good these days....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:21 AM

most of their infrastructure runs on geothermal
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:22 AM

they have heated sidewalks....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:22 AM

you can imagine how jealous I am right now living through a Saskatchewan winter....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:22 AM

it's a broadway show by Andrew Lloyd Webber - about trains...the steam train wins against electric and diesel
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:22 AM

steam is really powerful
KM

kelly mackin · 1:23 AM

I will have to check into that, sounds interesting.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:23 AM

did you know there were a number of steam powered cars?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:23 AM

"lots of power"
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:23 AM

Jay Leno has a few, you can check them out on youtube
KM

kelly mackin · 1:24 AM

and it does not need rpm to have the power.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:24 AM

most of them didn't have multiple gears because of the amount of torque a steam engine produces
KM

kelly mackin · 1:24 AM

they are powered by his chin, lets not fool anyone
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:24 AM

you're right, it's his chin =D
KM

kelly mackin · 1:24 AM

LOL he would have better milage then :)
KM

kelly mackin · 1:24 AM

its like a camel hump :)
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:25 AM

we're into HHO as well
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:25 AM

do you know what HHO is?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:25 AM

Brown's gas, hydroxy gas
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:25 AM

other names for it
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:26 AM

lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:26 AM

close...
KM

kelly mackin · 1:26 AM

youtube waterexplodes if your interested
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:26 AM

similar to electrolysis, water can be broken down into HHO which is a volatile gas
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:26 AM

it burns hotter than gasoline
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:26 AM

and is very explosive
KM

kelly mackin · 1:27 AM

Ah rick you crack me up lol.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:27 AM

Kelly and I built an HHO generator like the one displayed in Grant Thompson's videos on youtube.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:27 AM

a hoe with an extra hydrogen molecule?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:27 AM

it burns clean and leave nothing behind but steam and water.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:28 AM

Umm... no. it's not actually
KM

kelly mackin · 1:28 AM

no its pretty cheap and not to hard to do.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:28 AM

we built an HHO generator for about $150.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:28 AM

granted, it's not producing a TON of HHO
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:28 AM

but enough to experiment
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:29 AM

of a 12-volt car battery, we measured 1.5 liters/minute
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:29 AM

and we scared the shit outta my wife when we pretended to blow our faces off lol
KM

kelly mackin · 1:29 AM

just something for people to think about.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:30 AM

i'
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:30 AM

i'm anxious for spring so I can experiment in the garage (which is not heated)
KM

kelly mackin · 1:31 AM

running engines on hydogen. no need to mine things. I think the main problem lies in our behavior towards these issues.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:31 AM

behavior is our biggest obstacle
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:31 AM

we have all kinds of technology to explore, but we keep plugging away in this current system of consumerism
KM

kelly mackin · 1:31 AM

I think the best way is vibration, it produces heat as well.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:32 AM

herman nelson heaters been around for years.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:32 AM

there are people heating water with biomass systems
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:32 AM

basically just composting
KM

kelly mackin · 1:32 AM

Look into the water hammer and ask why its not legal in the united states for private ownership.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:33 AM

getting all the hot water they need for heating, showers, etc
KM

kelly mackin · 1:33 AM

don't ask me how i know this stuff, top secret crap
KM

kelly mackin · 1:33 AM

lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:33 AM

yeah, proper placement relative to wind direction is key lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:34 AM

do you know what nitinol is?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:34 AM

do a search on nitinol heat engines.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:34 AM

it's what most people call memory metal
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:35 AM

it's a alloy, made of nickel and titanium
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:35 AM

we have dual memory nitinol now....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:35 AM

which means when hot, it forms to one shape, and when cold, forms to another
KM

kelly mackin · 1:36 AM

SO many possibilities considering it moves with 55 ton per square inch force.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:36 AM

so if you think about that for a second....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:36 AM

nope its used in medical procedures that leave it in your body.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:36 AM

wouldn't it be not so hard to make a renewable energy source out of that?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:36 AM

its an amazing material and it gets better age.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:37 AM

I have ideas but I don't have to much money. I have a 3d printer to help make things.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:37 AM

I'm now looking into goverment grants.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:38 AM

another thing that Saskpower is doing (that's where I work) is they are constructing the first carbon capture system in the world, right here at Boundary Dam power station
KM

kelly mackin · 1:39 AM

I think, if we had a unit in every home, the resources saved on powerlines would be enough.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:39 AM

anybody with a high reliance on coal energy is keeping a close eye on us
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:39 AM

it captures CO2 so it can be stored or used in the oil industry
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:39 AM

of course, i'd rather just stop burning coal....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:40 AM

I see it this way. If I get in trouble for trying to help people become more equal. bring it on.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:41 AM

I have seen some videos of the burning man.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:41 AM

yeah, not my idea of a good time
KM

kelly mackin · 1:41 AM

they have "a power grid"
KM

kelly mackin · 1:41 AM

for their temporary city
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:42 AM

Hello Seth
KM

kelly mackin · 1:42 AM

OH Ill have to look into that.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:42 AM

hello everyone here.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:43 AM

probably diesel gens but I can't be sure untill I investigate.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:43 AM

Well, I somewhat covered everything I was going to mention.... Wind power, HHO, nitinol, a number of energy storage options
KM

kelly mackin · 1:43 AM

its ok westbrook
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:44 AM

no I haven't Seth
KM

kelly mackin · 1:44 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

so has anyone read about the Google Kite idea?

KM

kelly mackin · 1:44 AM

I think I did see that on daily planet
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:44 AM

Lightning is intermittent as well
KM

kelly mackin · 1:45 AM

but lighting is not always strinking
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:45 AM

but again, there are a number of storage options.. but lightning happens so fast
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:45 AM

you'd need hugs capacitors just to suck it all up and then store it from there
KM

kelly mackin · 1:45 AM

yep I think household energy box
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:45 AM

huge*
KM

kelly mackin · 1:46 AM

Oh there is a guy in germany on ted talks about silicon plates that create energy.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:46 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

well, there are examples of firing a laser to guide the lightning strike

KM

kelly mackin · 1:46 AM

Oh that sounds interesting.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:46 AM

NavSat is an idea for having a large solar panel orbiting earth, beaming energy down to a receiver on the ground
KM

kelly mackin · 1:46 AM

bloom blox?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:47 AM

i'm not sure of their location....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:47 AM

there's a great video made by a supporter of the venus project
KM

kelly mackin · 1:47 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

Whats up with the liquid metal battery?

WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:47 AM

if you search youtube for "our technical reality", you'll find it
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:47 AM

Regenedyne looks promosing as well
KM

kelly mackin · 1:47 AM

we had some battery talk befor but never got to deep into it yet.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:48 AM

a large scale, maglev VAWT
KM

kelly mackin · 1:48 AM

I didn't think it was natural gas but maybe it was.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:48 AM

If it is bleh.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:49 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

yea,you said a house box, the bloom box is a catylast converter, for nat gas to electricity

WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:49 AM

i concur... bleh. natural gas....
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:49 AM

we need to stop burning dirty fuel!
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:49 AM

Run that thing on HHO
KM

kelly mackin · 1:49 AM

I want to know what happened with the navy's information studies done on nitinol engines.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:49 AM

ya and hho is great.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:50 AM

and it works with natural gas?
KM

kelly mackin · 1:51 AM

or even paul patone's geet fuel processes.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:51 AM

oh, in that video i referenced, there was a tech introduced using natural gas in a wafer of some kind, not burning it
KM

kelly mackin · 1:51 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

? care to elaborate? there is a dude building zero emission houses in Huston right now, called the zero house, and he uses the bloom box to power them. he claims you will have zero bills for the first 10 years

KM

kelly mackin · 1:51 AM

Does it use natural gas?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:52 AM

well, using renewable energy for starters....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:53 AM

If so the mining and storage of natural gas is not very well done and I will need to see more into the design itself.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:53 AM

if we can work on it's efficiency, maybe we could get it produced fast enough to power a car and produce it on the fly
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:53 AM

but i would rather use a compressed air or hydro storage to store renewable energy
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:54 AM

I'm interesting in HHO for running our combustion engines
KM

kelly mackin · 1:54 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

direct is usually best, no?

WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:54 AM

the biggest issue with wind and solar is that it's not always available, so it's not feasible as a baseload energy source by itself
KM

kelly mackin · 1:54 AM

So How do we know these things for sure if we do not test them?
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:55 AM

forgotten... in one way or another.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:55 AM

give it some effort and intentions for everyone, still being able to move forward when progress is made.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:56 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

@kelly: which things? some have been studied and some have been forgotten, mostly.

WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:56 AM

I wonder if I'll still be alive when they finally publish all of Tesla's works....
KM

kelly mackin · 1:56 AM

Then they need to be rediscovered and examined in the now.
KM

kelly mackin · 1:57 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

jeez, that would be a mind f#ck.

KM

kelly mackin · 1:57 AM

lol I'm on it.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:57 AM

if you mean.. jump for joy and sing the streets kind of mind f#ck, then yah...
KM

kelly mackin · 1:58 AM

We just have to understand our own ignorance so we can move beyond it.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:58 AM

So you're interested in HHO? Kelly and I built a small generator, I'll be testing it on an old lawnmower when spring rolls around
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:59 AM

well, we're 1 minutes from wrap time
KM

kelly mackin · 1:59 AM

I did learn some new things here and glad you showed up.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 1:59 AM

thanks for stopping in everyone. it wasn't a big crowd, but I still enjoyed the Tawk!
KM

kelly mackin · 2:00 AM

★ Spotlighted from Seth Westbrook Toker

Ok, may i make a suggestion? can we make a few tawks? each on ONE subject? like storage, wind, steam, batteries specifically, tidal power etc.

WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:00 AM

Hmm, I would like to... might have to do some more research to have enough material for a whole hour
KM

kelly mackin · 2:00 AM

I will investigate the new ideas I have learned and hopefully tawl agian :) Oh for sure seth
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:00 AM

I have some knowledge, but could always use more
KM

kelly mackin · 2:00 AM

Me too.
KM

kelly mackin · 2:01 AM

And I like that you offer good information toker.
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:01 AM

my email is wayned77@gmail.com. if you want to talk about future events, send me a message
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:02 AM

I'm touring a wind gen facility with a battery system March 7th
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:02 AM

first in Canada, it's 2 km's from here lol
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:02 AM

i kindof lucked out there
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:03 AM

i'm really interested in wind, seeing as we're at the top of tornado alley here
WD

Wayne Delorme · 2:04 AM

kelly got booted out, not sure if anyone sees this. have a good night!
KM

kelly mackin · 5:13 AM
