learn about and discuss the new Google Car.

JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:30 PM

Good Afternoon Tawkers!!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:30 PM

Good afternoon! Are you excited about the new Google Car???
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:30 PM

I am intrigued to say the least...
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:31 PM

Haha. I agree!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:31 PM

An electronic car that drives itself based on GPS dirrections...hmmmm?
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:31 PM

Its hard to imagine there be a self driving car on the market... Seems so Jetsons! Haha
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:32 PM

It makes sense that an environmentally safe car would be developed along with all the Green developments in the world
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:33 PM

Hybrids, ecofuels...now a self driving car...what in the world may be next?
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:33 PM

Yes, but how is it possible for a computer to have the insight an forethought a human does? Although there are some terrible drivers out there...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:33 PM

It's interesting to me that it's controlled completely by satellite interaction...scary!!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:34 PM

No has pedal, no brakes, no steering wheel. You are at the mercy of a computer. And we all know how often they mess up or crash!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:34 PM

Imagine just sitting there while you car drives you to Starbucks! I wonder how drinking and driving will be effected by this
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:35 PM

I mean I don't see how a person could get a DUI if they really aren't driving the car...
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:35 PM

I don't think this will turn into something everyone has anytime soon. If we make self driving google cars the norm, we would have to completely redo the roads for safety purposes.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:36 PM

I don't see the Google car becoming anything more than a toy for the rich
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:37 PM

Exactly. Great idea for drink drivers if they fix safety issues
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:37 PM

Considering there is only a start button and an emergency stop button...I would be frightened to drive in traffic...how does it know to stop ?
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:37 PM

I personally would not want to be helpless in a car. I like being in control bc I trust my reflexes and my driving skills. What if people start jacking into the cars and killing ppl???
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:38 PM

Hacking
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:38 PM

LIke you said, Sally, computers crash and malfunction...a computer driven car seems like trouble waiting to happen
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:39 PM

Yeah. Let's get Obama to try it out:)
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:39 PM

Oh, it's been tested massively but not in real time traffic. I can't image being in the traffic here in my city in a car that I wasn't really driving...
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:40 PM

Yeah. Just preliminary testing only allows it to travel 25 mph
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:40 PM

Bumper to bumper parking lot...how would the Google car make it in that?
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:40 PM

Yea, it's like early electric automobiles...not really a functional vehicle yet.
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:41 PM

I agree. Cool though
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:42 PM

The developers hope to produce Google cars that will travel much faster and the power to last much longer.
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:42 PM

At this point, they are basically in Beta with the Google car.
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:42 PM

And think about how much our gps fails. My gps won't even get me laces sometimes! It tells me to get out of my car and walk!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:42 PM

LOL
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:43 PM

What if a crime is occurring and you can't get away? It will drive you straight into a fire or an accident waiting to happen...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:43 PM

And what about road construction, accidents...there are just too many variables for me to believe that the Google car or any GPS driven automobile is a viable or useful idea
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:44 PM

Way too many variables. I'm ess impostor at best right now! Lol. I hope the google car proves me wrong though
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:44 PM

Wow. Pessimistic
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:44 PM

See...great example of how a computer can mess up!!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:44 PM

Autocorrect kills me. There's an example of yet another computer thinking for itself...
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:45 PM

Lol. Yep
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:45 PM

Autocorrect in a computer car...you could end up in Dallas when you were going to NYC!!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:45 PM

Well if someone allowed that to happen they're just plain dumb! Haha
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:46 PM

Well, they were headed to Dallas! LOL
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:46 PM

Yeah I guess the smokey mountains wouldn't be enough of a sign...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:46 PM

I love the idea...very environmentally friendly but it's far too early in the developement of the Google GPS driven car for me to get too excited about it.
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:47 PM

Exactly. People are really running with this green, environment-saving idea
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:47 PM

And that's good but calm down everyone!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:48 PM

The Google car isn't as impressive as the air train idea...
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:48 PM

Like being sucked into a bank drive through tube
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:49 PM

Ouch!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:49 PM

Maybe in the future the Google car may become more of a viable option but right now, like I said, it's a toy.
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:50 PM

I agree. Best wishes to Google and their team of GPS car testers!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:50 PM

It was nice chatting with you jd
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:50 PM

Talk about your test dummies!!
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:50 PM

Very nice Sally...we'll have to do it again soon!
SJ

Sally Jesse · 5:50 PM

Until then:)
JA

Jennifer "JD" Arbuckle · 5:51 PM

Later...
