We were on Good Morning America last year and you gave a great definition of what meditation was.n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:43 PM

I said that it’s like you have a cell phone and then somebody gives you the charger and you go, “Oh, now I can get this thing up to 100 anytime I want!
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:44 PM

You’ve been practicing TM for how long?n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:44 PM

Well, ’72, so 42 years. I learned it at Oswego where I was going to school. I was a pretty investigative person in those days. Still am, I guess.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:45 PM

When I hear about something that sounds interesting, I like to explore it.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:45 PM

I've explored a lot of different things and gotten a lot from all of them, but none of them, nothing compares to what TM has done.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:46 PM

The way I look at life, basically, is it’s exhausting.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:47 PM

haha
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:47 PM

Being busy is exhausting.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:47 PM

Doing nothing is exhausting.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:47 PM

No matter what you do as a human on earth, it’s exhausting, and sleep is a nice rest.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:47 PM

Most of us don’t get great sleep. It’s very hit and miss.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:48 PM

Right
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:48 PM

Sleep is hit and miss and TM is not. So it’s this thing that augments your need for rest. The people that don’t do it, I would say, “I can’t believe you stay up all day.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:48 PM

Haha
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:48 PM

That's a good one!
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:48 PM

Because I can’t do it
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:48 PM

Is it only physical, the recharging? Do you notice anything with your mind, clarity?n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:49 PM

I’m a big exerciser as well. I’m a big gym guy. I love to go, I don’t love it, but I just believe in it and I’m very much, I don’t separate the mind and the body as a thing.n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:49 PM

If my body’s tired, my mind’s tired.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:50 PM

If my mind’s tired, my body’s tired.n
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:50 PM

So you meditate now in the morning and how do you feel before your morning meditation?
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:50 PM

Because you had said at first you were wondering why you should meditate in the morning.n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:50 PM

Yeah, why would you rest when you just got out of bed?!
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:51 PM

If you get up out of your bed and turn around and look at it, it doesn’t look like what happened in there was very restful.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:51 PM

hahaha
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:52 PM

It looks like a war just went on in there and I bet you, people that do sleep research, if you did a time lapse of someone in bed, you see these things...
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:52 PM

you’re rolling around and punching pillows and pulling covers and half the time, you get up in the middle of the night. It’s a war!
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:52 PM

Sleep is a war.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:52 PM

So this thing, your night’s sleep was supposed to be this beautiful, restful, you’ve seen this Sealy or SleepLand ad, whoever it is. No one’s having this experience, okay?n
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:53 PM

Oh yeah, when they’re sort of like, in bliss
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:53 PM

Yeah, they’re sleeping on the bed and there’s this pretty girl. I don’t know, she’s never got a blanket on her.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:53 PM

Yeah, that’s right. She’s on her side.n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:56 PM

That’s such phony baloney stuff of what sleep is supposed to be, but what TM is
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:58 PM

Most comedians love analogies and me more than any comedian.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:58 PM

Chris Rock might be the only comedian I know who’s a little better at analogies than I am
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:58 PM

He’s a great analogizer!
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:59 PM

Here’s another good analogy and if you haven’t already thought of this, I’ll be shocked.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:59 PM

You’re on a road trip and you’ve got to stop for gas.n
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:59 PM

Right!
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 7:59 PM

Have you thought of this one?
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 7:59 PM

No, that's a good one
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:00 PM

Right, you get in the car, you drive in the car, you don’t just drive for ten hours.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:00 PM

You drive for three or four hours and you stop for gas for the car, for yourself, that break, that little break, and it’s just a big thing.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:02 PM

my dad, Cal Seinfeld, one of his great lines was “Never argue with the body.” He was a great midday nap guy.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:02 PM

He was a salesman and sometimes we would come home from school and he’d come out of the bedroom in his pajamas.
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:02 PM

He’d just say, “I got tired.”
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 8:02 PM

So you come with your friends and...
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:03 PM

Yeah and my dad would come out of the bedroom in his pajamas. “I got tired. I came home and went to sleep.”
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:03 PM

So that was his thing, “Never argue with the body.”
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:03 PM

Tired is not something I feel. That’s not something I tolerate. Tired is wrong. If you’re tired, something’s wrong.
Bob Roth

Bob Roth · 8:03 PM

Cal was right, listen to your body.n
JS

Jerry Seinfeld · 8:06 PM

Yes. He says, "Never argue with the body"
