We’re having a lot of people coming to us and saying, “We want to have programs" Could you say why TM could help overcome addiction.

Russell Brand · 5:25 PM
What I think is you have to create the conditions for a spiritual experience.

Russell Brand · 5:25 PM
I heard a wonderful analogy once, apparently if you live in rural America, and I can’t imagine what that must be like but if you do, you have to build a post box, put a post up, and build the post box to the exact specifications.

Russell Brand · 5:25 PM
Otherwise the U.S. mail, they ain’t going to deliver your letters.

Bob Roth · 5:25 PM
Right!

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
So every morning if you think, “I can’t be bothered to build a mailbox. They can just chuck it on the lawn”, you might not get any letters and you might therefore receive the information in your head that no one loves you

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
but you didn’t build the conditions for the letters to be delivered!

Bob Roth · 5:26 PM
Wow! Incredible and so true.

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
I think getting clean from drugs and following 12 step-based abstinence programs is creating the conditions for a spiritual experience.

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
We have to create the conditions for the letter to be delivered. Once we create the conditions for the spiritual experience, which isn’t easy, it isn’t easy, but it’s easier than being a drug addict in active addiction

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
once you create those conditions, it is possible for the spiritual experience.

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
Then you will need the support of a community of like-minded people. I think this is true for any transcendence, for any spiritual life

Russell Brand · 5:26 PM
You have to first of all receive the message and then you need the support of a community unless you’re hardcore enough to go it alone at the top of a mountain dressed in a sheet and I’m not there yet.

Bob Roth · 5:27 PM
And transcendental meditation would do what for them?

Russell Brand · 5:27 PM
Ah, transcendental meditation would give you the access to God.

Russell Brand · 5:27 PM
It’ll give you access to peace.

Russell Brand · 5:27 PM
It’ll give you access to a consciousness that is not entirely defined by yourself and your conditions as you understand them

Russell Brand · 5:27 PM
It’ll give you sanctuary and serenity. That’s what it’s done for me, it’s become an integral part of my life as a recovering drug addict, this transcendental meditation

Russell Brand · 5:27 PM
It’s where I access what is known as the 11th step, conscious contact with God. Conscious contact for me comes through transcendental meditation. It’s a huge part of my recovery.

Bob Roth · 5:27 PM
Wonderful. Thank you!

This week is Halloween. What's your Halloween message to people, Russell Brand?

Russell Brand · 6:16 PM
My Halloween message is probably, that word hallow, isn't that to do with the awesome of God? Hallowed

Russell Brand · 6:17 PM
It's something we've got to revere. Revere God, I think. Renee the unknown, not in a jack 'o lantern macabre, trick or treat way

Russell Brand · 6:18 PM
There are more tricks and more treats than you can possibly imagine out there in the hallowed realms of the unknown that you can access with a simple journey within
