Welcome to the Tawk to all that have joined. Blaze and I enjoy having conversations about different topics so we figured we'd have some live. You can even share chunks of the conversation to your preferred social media channel
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:03 PM

Good to talk with you again Blaze
BO

Blaze One · 11:04 PM

Greetings dude nice to talk again! Just to give you guys some background on myself, Im a Graffiti writer from Spain now living in London, UK. Been writing for about 12 years now and have slowly moved on to different forms of art :)
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:04 PM

So how much writing did you do in Spain vs. London?
BO

Blaze One · 11:06 PM

In Spain i was more drawn towards the Vandal side of Graffiti, simply because it's what i was exposed to. Now im living in London iv tried to focus my intentions more to the legal walls and decorating houses for people.
BO

Blaze One · 11:06 PM

being a Vandal only lasts so long before you have to 'Grow Up'
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:06 PM

Sort of kick started your career ! Lol
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:07 PM

Or rather adding gasoline to the tank
BO

Blaze One · 11:08 PM

very much so! it taught me alot, was like exploring my artistic expression before actually making something of it
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:08 PM

At what point did you start thinking about your intentions and the philosophy behind art?
BO

Blaze One · 11:10 PM

thats a tough question to answer it was more a natural progression, i never consciously thought it out, it just sort of happened
BO

Blaze One · 11:10 PM

woke up one morning and the idea of hiding in bushes until no one was around didnt appeal to me much anymore
BO

Blaze One · 11:10 PM

so from there i explored street art and then onto oil paintings and graphic design
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:14 PM

What are your ideas on intentions or your perspectives on art? What sort of feelings or experiences can you share that really rocked your core and sort of made you say, "you know this is what I like about art" ?
BO

Blaze One · 11:15 PM

the possibility to brighten someones day with something that iv made always gives me the goofiest smile, art to me isnt something that should be tied down to a gallery or museum
BO

Blaze One · 11:16 PM

it should be available for all to see whenever they wish, putting price tags on it hurts at times because its as if iv sold a part of me
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:17 PM

I know what you're talking about when you say goofiest smile.. it happens to me sometimes. It's definitely a deep down happiness that is shared.
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:18 PM

Graffiti definitely gives me a vibe of artists who didn't like the rules placed on them growing up and sort of said fuck it and when and painted. LOL
BO

Blaze One · 11:18 PM

hell yeah dude! what drew me into graffiti was the mysterious nature of it all
BO

Blaze One · 11:19 PM

theres these guys, who hang about at night time, and paint stuff in places at their own risk, for everyone else to enjoy!
BO

Blaze One · 11:19 PM

its a romantic endeavour
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:19 PM

YIN YANG SON
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:20 PM

and how about the thrill of it as well
BO

Blaze One · 11:20 PM

the thrill of hiding in a bush, at 2am smelling of dog poop just to paint a piece you've obsessed on all day
BO

Blaze One · 11:20 PM

theres no other drug like it my man
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:22 PM

Did you just start drawing and painting to get practice in or did you attend classes? Did you have mentors?
BO

Blaze One · 11:22 PM

i sketched for a long time before i picked up the paint, my crew always said if i could do it on paper i can do it on the wall
BO

Blaze One · 11:23 PM

iv never had a drawing class in my life, i failed art at school and despised anyone telling me what to draw
BO

Blaze One · 11:24 PM

the only people i consider mentors were the old time Graffiti artists, people like Kiz & King Robbo who sadly arent with us anymore played a big part in shaping my outlook on graffiti
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:25 PM

I know what you mean there. Stuck in a freaking paradigm and all you want to do is step outside of that box and do something that expresses your perspective... through art
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:25 PM

I'm going to have to watch more vids on graffiti.
BO

Blaze One · 11:26 PM

I can reccomend Bomb It! its a spectacular Graffiti Documentary
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:26 PM

*writes down "Bomb it" *
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:27 PM

*NSA knocks door down*
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:27 PM

*can't watch "Bomb It" because jail*
BO

Blaze One · 11:27 PM

hahaha Bomb as in the Graffiti term for illegal painting, just to clarify for any NSA agents watching
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:28 PM

LMAO
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:28 PM

They chat back... "Oh no biggie my man"
BO

Blaze One · 11:28 PM

me & the NSA have a mutual understanding
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:30 PM

Back to the whole art shouldn't be restricted thing.. because it's like debating ethics.. We want to tell others that what they do IS NOT ART... but then if you think a bit deeper you realize that art is subjective and limitless. What're ur thoughts?
BO

Blaze One · 11:31 PM

society is very 1 dimensional when it comes to art
BO

Blaze One · 11:31 PM

unless its in a gallery, with alot of people staring at it, then its not art
BO

Blaze One · 11:32 PM

what i try to do, is make something thats visually impressive so regardless of what your thoughts are on graffiti, you still have to think DANG! he went in!
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:32 PM

HAHA right!
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:32 PM

So mixing in what people liked about Banksy with Robbo writing
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:33 PM

A lot of people also think there has to be some deep underlying message
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:33 PM

Myself included... and sometimes you just appreciate the art!
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:34 PM

I'm sure that irks you sometimes when you paint a piece with a specific message in mind and someone interprets it their own way.
BO

Blaze One · 11:35 PM

indeed! the message with Graffiti writers is traditionally to get your name known around your city but not your face
BO

Blaze One · 11:35 PM

the thrill of walking past someone in the street and hearing them talk about you but not know your standing behind them is great!
BO

Blaze One · 11:36 PM

people try to make political statements through graffiti alot, but its all been so overused its become boring and transparent
BO

Blaze One · 11:36 PM

this is where the social fascination with Banksy comes into play
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:36 PM

ahah like a superhero
BO

Blaze One · 11:36 PM

what he did was different
BO

Blaze One · 11:36 PM

Graffiti writers are Ghetto superheros
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:37 PM

Sounds about right. So we can't really hate Banksy too much for what he did... but I can see why the writers would get a bit angry
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:38 PM

Have you read any books about graffiti artists/writers? I have no clue if there are any
BO

Blaze One · 11:39 PM

Subway Art by Martha Cooper is one i can name off the top of my head, alot of graffiti books dont explain much of the philosophy, its just pictures haha
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:40 PM

Well that's fuggin lame and cool at the same time... yanno why blaze? Cuz we gonna write that book
BO

Blaze One · 11:40 PM

im down!
BO

Blaze One · 11:41 PM

having no book is cool though, because it doesnt limit what graffiti HAS to be about, we can each add our own flavour and philosophy to what we enjoy
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:42 PM

sure... we'd write it in a way that's not saying THIS IS GRAFFITI but rather this is some of the philosophy others and ourselves have observed when looking at the grafiti styles and community
BO

Blaze One · 11:43 PM

yeah that would be pretty cool! i do have somewhere a screenplay i wrote about my journey through graffiti, its old as fuck but you're welcome to have a read one night
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:44 PM

That would be fucking cool
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:44 PM

Any big projects coming up?
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:44 PM

Also, have you ever taken on a project that once you start you're like fuck... where do I start on this?
BO

Blaze One · 11:45 PM

im in the final phase of getting permission to have legal walls underneath the highway near Windsor so locals can just rock up and paint whenever
BO

Blaze One · 11:46 PM

oh yeah man so many times! there was one time in spain i did an outline, then filled in and forgot completely what my piece looked like, i shouldnt have smoked to be fair
BO

Blaze One · 11:47 PM

i had to just freeball the entire thing and hope something came of it
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:47 PM

LMAO that's great man
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:47 PM

Let's focus on the final phase thing for a second. You're working on getting access to legal walls, and you're letting others paint on it with you?
BO

Blaze One · 11:48 PM

its a tough place to get because its considerd 'Royal Land', stupid windsor castle is like 5 minutes down the road from it
BO

Blaze One · 11:49 PM

i want to get it legalised to let kids that wish to explore their artistic idea, have a place to go to
BO

Blaze One · 11:50 PM

otherwise, kids are running around with spray paint and getting into trouble, i know i did it, but doesnt mean others have to follow
BO

Blaze One · 11:50 PM

its underthe highway, let anyone paint there, so long as they understand it will be gone over
BO

Blaze One · 11:50 PM

once a year paint it all white and start again
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:51 PM

That's a great idea... no different than a skate park in my eyes
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:51 PM

of course peeps will also want to cause a bit of ruckus
BO

Blaze One · 11:52 PM

people will bring the ruckus regardless man cant really help that
BO

Blaze One · 11:52 PM

if you're getting into graffiti you know there will be some step backs no matter how you go about it
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:53 PM

You basically offer spots for the younger generations to have opportunities. We definitely can't focus on putting rules and limits on everyone... that's old thinking these day
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:53 PM

s
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:54 PM

Before we wrap this up... anything you'd like to get out there before we go? Feel free to GO OFF
BO

Blaze One · 11:56 PM

If ANYONE that sees this wants to get involved with graffiti try to understand it take YEARS of practice, iv had too many friends ditch it because they felt they werent advancing
BO

Blaze One · 11:56 PM

iv been there too, trust me its heartbreaking to see a wall and the only piece not looking fresh to death is yours
BO

Blaze One · 11:56 PM

your time will come trust me, just stick to it
YP

Young Philosophers · 11:57 PM
